    摘要: A supercontinuum optical pulse source provides a combined supercontinuum. The supercontinuum optical pulse source comprises one or more seed pulse sources, and first and second optical amplifiers arranged along first and second respective optical paths. The first and second optical amplifiers are configured to amplify one or more optical signals generated by said one or more seed pulse sources. The supercontinuum optical pulse source further comprises a first microstructured light-guiding member arranged along the first optical path and configured to generate supercontinuum light responsive to an optical signal propagating along said first optical path, and a second microstructured light-guiding member arranged along the second optical path and configured to generate supercontinuum light responsive to an optical signal propagating along said second optical path. The supercontinuum optical pulse source further comprises a supercontinuum-combining member to combine supercontinuum generated in at least the first and second microstructured light-guiding members to form a combined supercontinuum. The supercontinuum-combining member comprises an output fiber, wherein the output fiber comprises a silica-based multimode optical fiber supporting a plurality of spatial modes at one or more wavelengths of the combined supercontinuum.

    摘要: Microstructured optical fibre with selectively enlarged spaces of reduced refraction index, especially for the generation of non-linear effects and stress measurements with a ring configuration of spaces, located around a cladded core, where the spaces demonstrate cross-section shape close to circle and decreased diffraction index, especially for the generation of non-linear effects and stress measurements, made of glass, preferably of silica glass or polymer and are located in nodes of hexagonal lattice with distances between the lattice nodes equal to the lattice constant, in which, around a single-mode core, there are, at least two rings with spaces of decreased diffraction index, filled with gas or fluid or a polymer, where the diameter of every-second space with decreased diffraction index in, at least, one ring, is enlarged to be lower from the double lattice constant, while the diameters D of all the enlarged spaces with decreased diffraction index are similar in size and the diameters d of non enlarged spaces with decreased diffraction index are close in size and lower from the lattice constant and the ratio of the diameter d of non enlarged space to the lattice constant is within the range from 0.30 to 0.45.

    摘要: An index-matching gel for use with nano-engineered optical fibers is disclosed. The index-matching gel is cross-linked, which prevents the gel from wicking into the voids and down the nano-engineered optical fiber to a depth where the fiber performance and/or device performance is compromised. The formulation comprises a non-reactive constituent A, two reactive constituents B and C, and a catalyst D. The gel is pre-cured and forms a cross-linked internal network that results in a single-component gel that does not require meter mixing of an additional constituent or heat curing. The gel is suitable for use in the mechanical splicing of optical fibers when at least one of the optical fibers is a nano-engineered optical fiber. The gel is also suitable for use in fiber optic connectors wherein at least one of the optical fibers constituting the connection is a nano-engineered optical fiber.

Typically, the core (14) includes an active material. In a further aspect, the invention features a system that includes two fibers (10, 48). One of the fibers has a first region, a first core (e.g., a multimode core) surrounding the first region, and a cladding surrounding the core. The other fiber has a core (e.g., a single mode core). The fibers can optically communicate so that energy can propagate from one of the cores to the other of the cores of the two fibers. Typically, at least one of the cores includes an active material.
