    摘要: An exposed lens retroreflective article (100), transfer articles comprising same, and methods of making same. The retroreflective article can include a binder layer (114); a layer of transparent microspheres (108) partially embedded in the binder layer; and reflective layer (110) disposed between the binder layer and the microspheres. The reflective layer (110) can include a dielectric mirror, which can include a first stack (115) and a second stack (111) positioned in planar contact with the first stack, wherein each of the first stack and the second stack comprises at least one bilayer (119), wherein each bilayer comprises a first material with a first bonding group and a second material with a complementary second bonding group. The transfer article can include the retroreflective article and a carrier web. The method can include partially embedding transparent microspheres in a carrier web; applying the reflective layer to the microspheres, and applying a binder layer composition to the reflective layer.

    摘要: In an optical reflector and a manufacturing method thereof, the reflector is superior in durability and has a high reflectivity to visible light, but not being conspicuous in color tone of reflection. The optical reflector comprises a glass substrate, on which are piled up a film of refractive index n1, a film of refractive index n2, a film of refractive index n3, and a film of refractive index n4, sequentially, wherein the thickness of the films are adjusted so that a relationship, n1≧n4>n3>n2, is established among those refractive indices n1, n2, n3 and n4. The film of refractive index n2 is from 30 nm to 60 nm in the film thickness, a reflectivity to visible light is equal to or greater than 75% upon the surface of the film of refractive index n4, and the value {(a*)2+(b*)2}½ is from 0 to 10 when representing the color tone of reflected light upon this film by a* and b* (psychometric chroma coordinates).

    摘要: Negative Group-delay-dispersion mirror (NGDD-mirror) multilayer structures include a generally-orderly arrangement of layers or groups of layers in which the function of certain individual layers or groups of layers can be recognized and defined. The structures are broadly definable as a rear group of layers which are primarily responsible for providing a desired reflection level and reflection bandwidth together with a low and smoothly varying reflection phase-dispersion, and a front group of layers which are primarily responsible for producing high reflection phase-dispersion necessary for providing a desired NGDD level and bandwidth. The front group of layers relies on multiple resonant trapping mechanisms such as two or more effective resonant-cavities, employing one or more sub-quarter-wave layers to shape the phase-dispersion for providing a substantially-constant NGDD. In certain embodiments of the structures, a base layer or substrate of a highly-reflective metal can be used to reduce the number of dielectric layers needed to provide high reflectivity.

    摘要: A birefringent interference polarizer which may be fabricated from readily available materials using established coextrusion techniques is provided. The polarizer has a level of light absorption near zero and can be fabricated to polarize and reflect light of specific wavelengths while transmitting light of other wavelengths. The polarizer includes multiple alternating oriented layers of at least first and second polymeric materials having respective nonzero stress optical coefficients which are sufficiently different to produce a refractive index mismatch between the first and second polymeric materials in a first plane which is different from the refractive index mismatch between the first and second polymeric materials in a second plane normal to the first plane. The refractive index mismatch in the first plane is preferably at least 0.03.

    摘要: A multilayered reflective body which is thermoformable and capable of being fabricated into relatively thick parts while maintaining a uniform reflective appearance is provided. The reflective polymeric body includes at least first and second diverse polymeric materials of a sufficient number of alternating layers of the first and second polymeric materials such that at least 30% of the light incident on the body is reflected. A substantial majority of the individual layers of the body have an optical thickness of at least 0.45 micrometers, and adjacent layers of the first and second polymeric materials differ from each other in refractive index by at least about 0.03. The reflective body may be fabricated into sheets, mirrors, noncorroding metallic appearing articles and parts, reflectors, reflective lenses, and the like.

    摘要: A highly damage resistant, multilayer, optical reflective coating includes alternating layers of doped and undoped dielectric material. The doping levels are low enough that there are no distinct interfaces between the doped and undoped layers so that the coating has properties nearly identical to the undoped material. The coating is fabricated at high temperature with plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition techniques to eliminate defects, reduce energy-absorption sites, and maintain proper chemical stoichiometry. A number of differently-doped layer pairs, each layer having a thickness equal to one-quarter of a predetermined wavelength in the material are combined to form a narrowband reflective coating for a predetermined wavelength. Broadband reflectors are made by using a number of narrowband reflectors, each covering a portion of the broadband.
