    摘要: For measuring the absorption from measuring values whereby the radiation attenuation in a plane of a body is measured, a large number of calculations must be performed. When use is made of a digital computer, a large quantity of storage locations and a long calculating time are required. According to the invention, use is made of a charge storage tube wherein the correction values calculated in a preprocessing unit on the basis of the measuring values are superimposed, so that a substantial reduction of the calculation time and a reduction of the number of storage locations are realized.

In apparatus for measuring the density of an object such as a cigarette rod 10 by passing a beam of radiation from a radio-active source 20 through an aperture 90 in a block 60 through which the rod passes, and receiving it on a detector 30, spurious signals caused by movement of the rod upwards are eliminated by an absorbing block 50 with a reflecting top surface positioned in the radiation path. The arrangement is that if the rod lifts radiation passing beneath the rod is intercepted by the block radiation passing through the rod and reaching the detector is reduced because of the increased width of cigarette in the radiation path through region c while the radiation reflected on to the detector from top surface e is increased, maintaining the detector output substantially constant.

    摘要: Improved method and means for the detection of nitrogenous material or assaying of nitrogenous material in an object on the basis of nuclear resonant attenuation of 9.17 MeV .gamma.-rays. A target in form of one or several .sup.13 C pellets at least 25.mu. thick, or alternatively in form of a body that bears a composite thin film including at least one .sup.13 C layer not more than 1.mu. thick and at least one other substance that is capable of generating supplementary .gamma.-radiation for determining the non-resonant component of attenuation, is bombarded with 1.75 MeV protons to produce a source of 9.17 MeV .gamma.-rays. The target is placed on one side of the inspected object and a .gamma.-ray detector or an array of such detectors is placed on the other side and the total and non-resonant attenuation are read and evaluated.
