Abstract:
A system for detecting a gas leak in a generator includes a source of carbon dioxide gas, and a subsystem for introducing the carbon dioxide gas into the generator. An infrared imaging device is adapted to communicate with a notification device to display an image of at least a portion of the generator and the carbon dioxide gas. The infrared imaging device is a cooled detector and a filter with a spectral response between about 3 μm and about 5 μm. At least one of the detector and the filter is cooled to between about −80° C. and about −200° C. The gas leak will be indicated on the notification device.
Abstract:
A system and method for detecting a gas leak in a generator is provided. The system includes a source of a non-corrosive tracer gas, and a subsystem for introducing the non-corrosive tracer gas into the hydrogen cooled generator. An infrared imaging device is adapted to communicate with a notification device to display an image of at least a portion of the hydrogen cooled generator and the non-corrosive tracer gas. The infrared imaging device includes a cooled detector, and a filter with a spectral response between about 3 μm and about 5 μm. The detector and/or the filter is cooled to between about −80° C. and about −200° C. The gas leak will be indicated on the notification device. The generator may hydrogen cooled, and on-line or on-grid.
Abstract:
Compositions and related methods for detecting leaks in HVAC/R components such as furnaces, portable gas heaters, swimming pool heaters, air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigerators, freezers, and other closed loop vapor compression systems, as well as heat exchangers. These compositions provide more sensitive detection of leaks in inaccessible areas of furnaces using low ODP and non-flammable compounds classified as hydrofluorochloro-ethers (HFCE's), hydrobromochlorofluoro-alkenes (HBCFA's) hydrofluoro-ethers (HFE's), and halogenated compounds which are either alkanes, alcohols, diones, acetates, ketones (e.g., butanones, pentanones), esters (e.g., propanoates), anhydrides, cycloalkanes (cycloparaffins), cycloalkenes (cycloolefins), heterocyclics (e.g., furans), and aromatics.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are detectable refrigerant compositions, comprising from about 0.001 to about 5 weight percent tracer compositions, which are useful to identify leaking in a vapor compression refrigeration and/or air conditioning system. The presence of the tracers make the refrigerant compositions detectable by chemo/electro-active array, corona discharge, heated diode, electrochemical, photoionization, infrared, ultrasonic and electron capture detectors.
Abstract:
The present application reveals a lamp and a method for detecting leaks in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. The lamp uses one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a light source to detect fluorescent dyes that have been added to the air-conditioning or refrigeration system.
Abstract:
A light source for testing sites using a fluorescent dye is described. The light source can include a low voltage lamp or a low heat generating lamp.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for detecting abnormality in a process for exchanging heat between a heating medium and a process fluid comprising the step of: detecting a gaseous component at a gas phase in a flow path of the heating medium, wherein the gaseous component is generated by contact of the heating medium with the process fluid. This method can promptly detect a leakage of the process fluid in a process for exchanging heat between a heating medium and a process fluid.
Abstract:
A method for detection of leaks in a plate pack heat exchanger having respective discrete first and second flow paths in mutual thermal contract comprises connecting a helium detector probe at one end of the first flow path and an air compressor means at the other end of the first flow path, introducing helium to the second flow path, allowing air to pass through the first flow path under the influence of the compressor means and detecting any helium present therein by the helium detector probe, the pressure of the second flow path being higher than that of the first flow path.
Abstract:
A light source for examining leak detection sites in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems using a fluorescent dye is described. The light source can include a parabolic reflector or a low voltage lamp.
Abstract:
A leak detecting dye for use in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems employing dyes, such as naphthalimide, perylene, coumarin, anthracene, phenanthracene, and thioxanthane. The dye is adsorbed onto a non-absorbent carrier which is then adapted for inclusion into various components of the system such as a filter drier, or a desiccant container which may be inserted into appropriate locations within the system.
