Abstract: A soft electrohydrodynamic actuator includes an actuating unit. The actuating unit includes a flexible pouch, a rod electrode, a dielectric fluid, an enameled wire, a hose and a planar flexible electrode. The inner cavity of the flexible pouch is provided with the rod electrode and filled with the dielectric fluid. The hose is hermetically connected to a side of the flexible pouch. The enameled wire is hermetically sleeved in the hose. One end of the enameled wire extends into the inner cavity of the flexible pouch through the hose and is electrically connected to an end of the rod electrode. The other end of the enameled wire is connected to a high-voltage positive electrode. The outer surface of the flexible pouch is coated with a layer of conductive soft material as the planar flexible electrode, or a water environment around the flexible pouch is used as the planar flexible electrode.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump, and related method, are disclosed that includes a cam shaft, a plunger-cam follower, a tube receiver, a spring, a plunger, a door, and a plunger lift lever. The cam shaft includes a plunger cam. The plunger-cam follower engages with the plunger cam of the cam shaft. The spring provides a bias and the plunger is biased toward the tube receiver by the spring. The plunger is coupled to the plunger-cam follower where expansion of the plunger cam along a radial angle intersecting the plunger-cam follower as the cam shaft rotates actuates the plunger away from the tube receiver. The door lever can be actuated between a first position and a second position. The plunger lift lever is coupled to the door lever to actuate the plunger away from the tube receiver when the door lever is actuated to the second position.

Abstract: An ocular drainage system is provided for treating diseases that produce elevated intraocular pressures, such as glaucoma, wherein the system includes an implantable device and an external control unit, the implantable device includes a non-invasively adjustable valve featuring at least one deformable tube and a disk rotatably mounted within a housing, such that rotation of the disk using the external control unit causes the disk to apply a selected amount of compression to the deformable tube, thereby adjusting the fluidic resistance of the deformable tube and regulating the intraocular pressure.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump having at least first, second, and third stages is provided. The peristaltic pump includes a plunger, inlet and outlet valves, a spring, and an actuator. The plunger actuates toward and away from a tube, the inlet valve is upstream of the plunger, the outlet valve is downstream of the plunger, the spring biases the plunger toward the tube, and the actuator mechanically engages and disengages from the plunger. In the first stage, the inlet valve is opened and the plunger is actuated from the tube, in the second stage, the inlet valve is closed, the plunger is actuated toward the tube, and the actuator is mechanically disengaged from the plunger, and in the third stage, the outlet valve is opened. In the third stage or in a fourth stage, the actuator actuates the plunger toward the tube to discharge fluid downstream past the outlet valve.

Abstract: A patch-sized fluid delivery device may include a reusable portion and a disposable portion. The disposable portion may include components that come into contact with the fluid, while the reusable portion may include only components that do not come into contact with the fluid. Redundant systems, such as redundant controllers, power sources, motor actuators, and alarms, may be provided. Alternatively or additionally, certain components can be multi-functional, such a microphones and loudspeakers that may be used for both acoustic volume sensing and for other functions and a coil that may be used as both an inductive coupler for a battery recharger and an antenna for a wireless transceiver. Various types of network interfaces may be provided in order to allow for remote control and monitoring of the device.

Abstract: The present disclosure may relate to a pump including a centerless rim, a first roller guide shaped to roll along the centerless rim such that as the first roller guide is rotated, friction between the first roller guide and the centerless rim causes a corresponding rotation of the centerless rim. The pump may also include a second roller guide shaped to roll along the centerless rim, and a plurality of peristaltic rollers coupled to the centerless rim. The pump may additionally include a tube housing disposed proximate the plurality of peristaltic rollers, and a tube disposed between the tube housing and the peristaltic rollers such that as the centerless rim is rotated, the peristaltic rollers compress the tube against the tube housing to create negative pressure within the tube.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump includes a conduit having a first end tor receiving a fluid from a reservoir and a second end for delivering the fluid. A plurality of fingers are disposed at respective locations along a segment of the conduit and are configured to alternately compress and release the conduit at the locations. A cyclical pump mechanism is coupled to move the fingers between respective compressed and released positions in a spatio-temporal pattern so as to drive a predetermined quantity of the fluid through the segment of the conduit in each pump cycle. A motor is coupled to drive the pump mechanism. A controller is coupled to activate and deactivate the motor in alternation during each pump cycle with a duty cycle that varies within the pump cycle.
