The present invention encompasses an innovative concept for the marking of trafficways, more particularly roads. The application qualities and lifetime of these new markings are comparable with those of the prior art. The markings also possess properties comparable with those of the prior art in respect of night visibility, back-in-service time, and surface quality. An additional contribution of the markings of the present invention, however, is that they can be used to support modern driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. With this in mind, the present invention relates more particularly to road markings which, building on established systems, are equipped with additional reflection capacity for electromagnetic radiation, more particular for microwaves and/or infrared radiation.

Provided herein are multi-layered structures comprising coated substrates, and methods for producing the layered structures provided. Coatings according to the disclosure are provided in greatly reduced time frames as compared to coatings of the prior art. Coating structures as provided herein can be applied to a substrate such as a garage floor, a truck bed, railcar, seatainer, tractor-trailers and the like within a single day, and are sufficiently cured to withstand heavy traffic such as motorized vehicle traffic in as little as two hours after application of the polymer precursor layer material employed.

A method and composition for treating a weathered low traffic volume asphalt surface. The method comprising the steps of providing a composition comprising a solution, emulsion or dispersion of a polymer material, particulate material, rheology modifiers, processing aids, and UV absorbers, wherein the composition is essentially free of bituminous components and is essentially free of cement; and applying the composition to the asphalt surface. The composition preferably is a shear thinning formulation which exhibits a marked reduction in viscosity when sprayed or otherwise subjected to shear during application but increases in viscosity after application.

A method and apparatus for imprinting a predefined pattern in a freshly rolled asphalt surface to simulate the appearance of bricks, cobblestones, interlocking paving stones or the like. A pliable, grid-like template is progressively compressed into the asphalt surface using a drum roller or other surface compactor. The template is then manually lifted clear of the asphalt surface and the asphalt is allowed to harden. The patterned asphalt surface may be treated with a thin coating of colored concrete to enhance the brick and mortar effect.
