Abstract: Systems and methods for rapidly assessing biocide contamination and biological contamination treatments found in fluids used for subterranean well treatments and related operations are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include providing a fluid including an aqueous base fluid and one or more microorganisms; introducing a first sample of the fluid to a first culture device including an indicator reagent, wherein over a period of about 48 hours or less the indicator reagent indicates a first color change in the first sample of the fluid; and determining a first count of the microorganisms in the fluid based, at least in part, on the first color change.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a process fluid with an environmentally compatible biostabilizer in a geothermal borehole. The biostabilizer is characterized in that it comprises at least one organic acid, or a salt, alcohol or aldehyde thereof, wherein the at least one organic acid is selected from the group consisting of hop acids, resin acids, fatty acids and mixtures thereof. The biostabilizer is preferably a mixture of hop extract, rosin and myristic acid. The invention further relates to related process fluids and methods for producing the same.

Abstract: This disclosure describes formulations and methods for stimulating the production from wells in nano-darcy shale formations. In one embodiment, the method includes injecting a treatment mixture containing a metal complexing agent into a nano-darcy shale formation adjacent to a well at a pressure below the fracture pressure of the formation. A sufficient contact time is allowed and then the treatment mixture is pumped from the subsurface. This has been shown to stimulate well production in shale formations. Without being held to a particular theory it appears that the metal complexing agent is binding with naturally occurring metals in the shale formation, and particularly divalent metal ions, which are then extracted with the spent fluid. This removal of naturally occurring metals may be increasing the permeability of the formation in the contact region adjacent to the well, thereby causing the observed increased production.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the autonomous generation of safe self-limiting concentrations of chlorine dioxide for the treatment of process water. The method comprises a system that is self-limiting such that variations in water flow-rate and/or feed-rate of chlorite donor does not allow for increased concentrations of chlorine dioxide. The effluent concentration from the system does not exceed 3000 ppm thereby providing a means of generating chlorine dioxide for use where remote applications and/or where unskilled personnel are involved.

Abstract: Methods of fracturing a subterranean formation include introducing a fracturing fluid containing an aqueous medium, a viscosifying agent and a polyethylene oxide alkyl ether through a wellbore and into the subterranean formation, pressurizing the fracturing fluid to fracture the subterranean formation, and allowing the fracturing fluid to flow back into the wellbore from the subterranean formation. The polyethylene oxide alkyl ether useful in some embodiments is defined according to the formula: where R1 and R2 are independently selected from linear or branched alkyl groups having from 2 to 16 carbon atoms, and ‘n’ may be a value selected from within a range of from 1 to 100.
