摘要: The present invention is directed to certain biodegradable and/or compostable biobased particulate compositions for additive manufacturing, such as those including a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) powder, wherein the particulate composition and/or the PHA powder possesses (a) a free bulk density, as determined by ASTM D1895-96, of greater than 0.30 g/mL, and (b) a sinterability region of greater than 15 degrees Celsius. Also, the invention is directed to certain methods of manufacturing such biodegradable and/or compostable biobased particulate compositions useful as powdered build material for additive manufacturing processes. In addition, the present invention is directed to additive manufacturing processes utilizing the biodegradable and/or compostable biobased particulate compositions elsewhere described, along with the articles printed therefrom.

摘要: A method prepares polymeric material including polyester recycled by chemical recycling technology by glycolysis from waste, purification and subsequent repolymerization, to obtain a purified product with chemical-physical-mechanical features equal to virgin plastic material. The method includes providing raw material in the form of flakes for a glycolysis process obtained through a pre-treatment process of dirty post-consumer plastic of polyesters. Chemical depolymerization reacts by glycolysis to obtain a mixture defined “glycolysis product” based on the intermediate Bis-2-hydroxyethyl terephthalate and low-molecular-weight small oligomers. Purification of the glycolysis product uses ion exchange resins and adsorbents for removing contaminants and color and subsequent recovery of pigments separated from the plastic and subsequent evaporation and concentration reactions to obtain the pure BHET monomer, intermediate of PET production. Polycondensation reaction of the pure intermediate monomer obtains polyester and subsequent granulation aimed at solid phase crystallization. A pilot plant and an industrial plant perform the method.

摘要: Syndio-rich P3HB (sr-P3HB), readily synthesized from the eight-membered meso-dimethyl diolide, has a unique set of stereomicrostructures comprising enriched syndiotactic [rr] and no isotactic [mm] triads but abundant stereo-defects randomly distributed along the chain. This sr-P3HB material is characterized by high toughness (UT=96 MJ/m3), as a result of its high elongation at break (>400%) and tensile strength (34 MPa), crystallinity (Tm=114° C.), and optical clarity (due to its sub-micron spherulites), and good barrier properties, while it still biodegrades in freshwater and soil. On the other hand, iso-rich P3HB (ir-P3HB) can be synthesized from the eight-membered rac-dimethyl diolide. While sr-P3HB exhibits excellent adhesion strength toward a variety of substrates, both sr-P3HB and ir-P3HB can substantially toughen brittle stereoperfect biological or synthetic P3HB. Both sr-P3HB and ir-P3HB can also be obtained from the four-membered rac-beta-butyrolactone with appropriate catalysts.

摘要: Compositions of P4HB with high purity have been developed. The compositions are prepared by washing P4HB biomass prior to solvent extraction, and precipitating P4HB from solution. The same solvent is preferably used to wash the P4HB biomass, and as a non-solvent to precipitate the polymer from a P4HB solvent solution. The highly pure P4HB compositions are suitable for preparing implants. The implants may be used for the repair of soft and hard tissues.
