摘要: The invention provides a process for producing a fermentable gas stream from a gas source that contains one or more constituent which may be harmful to the fermentation process. To produce the fermentable gas stream, the gas stream is passed through a specifically ordered series of removal modules. The removal modules remove and/or convert various constituents found in the gas stream which may have harmful effects on downstream removal modules and/or inhibitory effects on downstream gas fermenting microorganisms. At least a portion of the fermentable gas stream is preferably capable of being passed to a bioreactor, which contains gas fermenting microorganisms, without inhibiting the fermentation process.

摘要: A method is disclosed for the adsorptive removal of H.sub.2 S from gas mixtures in C-containing adsorption agents with 1-80 bar pressures and regeneration, employing pressure lowering and/or temperature change and simultaneous rinsing with an at most negligibly absorbable component of the gas mixture. A carbon molecular sieve of fossil and/or bituminous fuel is used, with for pore diameter less than 10 nm a pore volume of 15-25 cm.sup.3 /100 g, and micropore volume in pore diameter range 0.35-10 nm less than 10 cm.sup.3 /100 g. The inner surface of the molecular screen can be freed of surface groups capable of reacting with the H.sub.2 S by aftertreatment with reducing gas.

摘要: Regenerative process for the purification of a non-reacting industrial gas stream by removal of trace amounts of carbon dioxide therefrom, comprising contacting said gas stream with non-aqueous liquid solution of at least one member selected from the group consisting of: (a) hydroxides and weak acid salts of sodium, potassium, and lithium and (b) specific liquid aliphatic polyhydric alcohol; separating the purified industrial gas from the reaction products of said contacting step including said solution; increasing said reaction products stream to an elevated temperature up to 200.degree. C.; reducing the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the vapor phase above said reaction product stream; separating carbon dioxide from said reaction product stream; and recycling the treated reaction product stream to said liquid body of said solution for contacting a further quantity of said industrial gas stream.

摘要: The present invention provides a filter system for treating air entering an electrochemical air separation device that is designed to separate oxygen from air. The filter is provided with first and second filter sections. The first filter section is formed from a plurality of sheets of woven mesh containing surface deposits of one or more substances that are effective to interact and combine with one or more airborne contaminants to remove the same from the air. For example, the substance can be zinc oxide to react and remove sulfur compounds from the air. The second filter section is configured to filter particulate matter and is situated adjacent to the first filter element. The first and second filter sections are peripherally retained within a retaining structure so that the air to be treated passes through the first filter section and then the second filter section. The retaining structure can be releasably attached to a connection flange that is in turn attached to the air inlet of the electrochemical air separation device.

摘要: A method of obtaining helium from a helium-containing feed gas. Helium-containing feed gas is fed to a prepurifying unit that uses a pressure swing adsorption process to remove undesirable components from the helium-containing feed gas and obtain a prepurified feed gas. The prepurified feed gas is fed to a membrane unit connected downstream of the prepurifying unit and that has at least one membrane more readily permeable to helium than to at least one further component present in the prepurified feed gas. A pressurized low-helium retentate stream that has not passed through the membrane is fed to the prepurifying unit. The pressurized low-helium retentate is used to displace helium-rich gas from an adsorber that is to be regenerated into an already regenerated adsorber.

摘要: Sulfur oxides are removed from an oxygen-containing acid gas in configurations and methods in which oxygen is removed from the acid gas using reducing gases at relatively high temperature. The so treated acid gas is then fed to a direct reduction reactor in which the sulfur species are converted to elemental sulfur. Contemplated configurations are particularly effective and economically attractive as they are generally not limited by reaction equilibrium as present in a Claus reaction and do not require solvent and solvent-associated equipment.
