    Abstract: A bumper arrangement (1) for a motor vehicle, in particular for a lower load plane, wherein the bumper arrangement (1) has a bumper crossmember (2) and two spaced-apart supporting profiles (3, 3), the first ends (4, 4) of which are each fastened indirectly or directly to one of the two regions of the bumper crossmember (2) that are in the vicinity of the end and which are each fastened at a second end (5, 5) to chassis parts or longitudinal member parts (6) formed on the motor vehicle, wherein the bumper crossmember (2) is held by the supporting profiles (3, 3) on the vehicle structure and has a preferably symmetrically curved portion (7) in the form of a portion of a tube or a portion of a groove or a portion of a profile, wherein the portion (7) is fastened by its ends (8, 8′) in the vicinity of the second ends (5, 5′) of the supporting profiles (3, 3′) to the chassis parts or longitudinal member parts (6), wherein the curved portion (7) is shaped in a manner projecting with a central region (9) to the bumper crossmember (2) and therefore at least lies against the bumper crossmember (2).

    Abstract: An energy absorption component for a motor vehicle includes an energy absorption element that has a longitudinal element with first and second support regions that support the longitudinal element on a bumper crossmember of the motor vehicle and on a shell construction element of the motor vehicle, respectively. A strengthening element is disposed on an outside of the longitudinal element and has first and second support regions that support the strengthening element on the bumper crossmember and on the shell construction element, respectively. An end of the first support region of the strengthening element is disposed apart from an end of the first support region of the longitudinal element by a first distance and an end of the second support region of the strengthening element is disposed apart from an end of the second support region of the longitudinal element by a second distance.

    Abstract: A vehicle front structure includes a pair of side rails extending in a vehicle forward-rearward direction on right and left sides in a front portion of the vehicle and a hollow bumper reinforcement extending in a vehicle right-left direction and coupled to front ends of the pair of side rails. The bumper reinforcement includes side extension parts extending outward beyond the side rails, respectively. The vehicle front structure further includes load transmission members each extending from a front face of each of the side extension part of the bumper reinforcement through the side extension part and further extending rearward and toward the inward of the vehicle. In a small overlap crash, the load transmission member transmits a collision load directly to the side rail.

    Abstract: A variable shear control energy absorption system for a vehicle is provided. The system may include a vehicle frame component and a primary deformable impact absorber located adjacent the vehicle frame component. The vehicle frame component may be a bumper reinforcement member. The system may include a plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers located within the primary deformable impact absorber, each secondary deformable impact chamber including a shear thickening fluid that exhibits an increasing or decreasing viscosity responsive to an impact force. At least one elastic relief chamber is provided in fluid communication with the plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers. The elastic relief chamber is configured to temporarily accept the shear thickening fluid from the plurality of secondary deformable impact chambers during low force impacts, and to redirect the shear thickening fluid back to the secondary deformable impact chambers after the low impact force recedes.
