Abstract:
A working fluid filtration and separation system that removes contaminants from a working fluid of a working machine. The system includes a vessel and an electrostatic collector mounted within the vessel which electrostatically removes contaminants from contaminated working fluid as it passes through the electrostatic collector element. The electrostatic collector element includes a plurality of concentric electrodes of different radii, a plurality of corrugated walls residing in spaces located between adjacent electrodes. An elongated center post electrode is provided that induces a voltage in at least one of the plurality of concentric electrodes. The system is configured to generate a voltage difference between each pair of adjacent concentric electrodes to electrostatically remove contaminants from the working fluid as it flows through the filtration and separation system. The system further includes a center post isolator that is configured to mount the center post isolator within the vessel and electrically insulate the center post electrode from the vessel.

An electronic respiratory mask capable of filtering air that passes through is disclosed herein. In an embodiment, a face mask includes a body having an inner volume that surrounds the user's mouth when the body is placed over the user's mouth, a first electrode located on the body, the first electrode sized and shaped to allow air to pass between the inner volume of the body and an outside environment when the body is placed over the user's mouth, and a second electrode located on the body, the second electrode sized and shaped to allow air to pass between the inner volume of the body and the outside environment when the body is placed over the user's mouth, wherein the first and second electrode create an electric field gradient that is capable of suspending microbes as air passes between the inner volume of the body and the outside environment.

A filter assembly for an active field polarized media air cleaner includes a conductive screen that conducts a high voltage therethrough, a probe that delivers voltage to the conductive screen, and a conductive patch adhered to the conductive screen. The probe delivers the high voltage to the conductive screen through the conductive patch.
Abstract:
An electrostatic precipitator may have a set of collector electrodes and a set of repelling electrodes. The conductive portions of the collector electrodes and/or the repelling may be arranged in segments. The segments may have differing electrical properties or may be electrically isolated to facilitate differing potentials along an airflow path. The differing potentials results in differing electric field strengths along the airflow path.
Abstract:
An air processing device is provided by which a current-carrying section is attached to a casing by an insulating member having a covering section covering an outer periphery face of a current-carrying section and a tube-like section in which a power source-side end of the covering section is supported by a tube bottom section. This consequently secures a long insulating distance from an electric discharge spray section and a charged dust collecting section via the current-carrying section to the casing. As a result, the respective electrodes and the casing can have an improved insulating performance therebetween even under an environment where water droplets are supplied.
Abstract:
Devices for removing particles for a gas utilizing electrostatic precipitation having collector modules with fewer electrical connections, which facilitate cleaning, and/or eliminate the need for high voltage connections between a removable collector module and a collector module support. Driver electrode modules provide electrical connection between an insulated driver electrode and a source of electrical potential or between insulated driver electrodes and at least one other conductor through a hole in or on some edge on the driver electrodes. A biasing force is provided and a conductive element serves as a conductor between the driver electrode(s) and the other conductors. A plurality of insulated driver electrodes, e.g. plates, are formed with a single, conductive plate or from a plurality of electrically joined conductive plates which are coated with insulation and then bent. An electrically-shielded, high voltage generating circuit is integrated with a readily removable collector module to eliminate the need for high voltage connections between the removable collector module and the collector module support, while enhancing the device's durability and allowing cleaning with cleaning fluid and/or dishwasher detergent.
Abstract:
In various aspects of the invention, electrostatic filters having insulated electrodes are described. In such embodiments, care is taken to prevent the accumulation of opposing charges on the insulation, which, over time, would serve to significantly degrade the strength of the electrostatic field created in the dielectric, and thus reduce the performance of the electrostatic filter. A variety of mechanisms are described for mitigating the opposing charge buildup problem.
Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed for improving the performance of a high voltage, rapper-type precipitator having a supply electrode and a rapper rod passing through a grounded precipitator roof and attached to an array of discharge electrodes. Alumina insulation sleeves are installed over the supply electrodes and rapper rods to prevent sparking to the grounded precipitator roof. A shock absorber is provided on the lower end of the insulator to prevent damage to the insulator during precipitator rapping.
Abstract:
A flattened profile emission oxidizing device for removing soot and other particulates from the exhaust gases of a diesel engine having an enclosure with a forward inlet for receiving diesel engine exhaust, a main flow path through the enclosure, a bypass through the enclosure for diverting flow from the main flow path, and a control means for selectively controlling the flow through the main flow path and the bypass in accordance with certain sensed conditons relating to the status of engine operation and the condition of a particulate trapping medium that is disposed in the main flow path. The main flow path has an electrostatic precipitator that is disposed in underlying relationship to the particulate trapping medium in the main flow path and a series of vanes are disposed in underlying relationship to the electrostatic precipitator and serve to redirect the exhaust flow passing through the main flow path and distribute the exhaust flow over the electrostatic precipitator and the trapping medium. A thermal stabilizer in the outlet of the device attenuates the peak temperatures of the exhaust gases.
Abstract:
A high-voltage insulator which is suitable for use in chambers carrying gas highly charged with solid particles and is used particularly in electrostatic filters used for cleaning an exhaust gas derived from internal combustion engines used to drive motor vehicles. The high-voltage insulator is columnar in structure, having shield-like ribs succeeding one another at intervals, adjacent to each of which in the insulator is one recess. With the remaining insulator parts having a smaller diameter, this recess forms a sharp edge, which defines discharge paths toward the flank of the shield-like ribs. Inside these paths, the insulator is kept free of soot coatings or conductive coatings, so that the insulator itself offers high resistance to leakage currents, which would cause insupportable power losses.
