摘要: A device and method for cardiac pacing is disclosed in which anodal pacing of the left ventricle is provided. Anodal pacing occurs when an anodal surface area is sufficiently small to create an area of hyper-polarization of the myocardial cell membrane. This creates a virtual cathode at a location remote from the anode. The virtual cathode results in depolarization of the heart in a manner similar to the virtual cathode at the true fixed cathode. In addition a device and method for summation anodal pacing is provided in which one anode is common between two or more cathodes. This results in hyperpolarization of a larger segment of the myocardium as compared to non-summation anodal pacing and thereby forms a larger virtual electrode to enable capture of localized, discrete cardiac structures such as the bundle of His or the very proximal portions of the right and left bundles.

摘要: A system for guiding implantation of an energy delivery component of a cardiac pacing device at a fixation location within a heart of a patient is provided. During a procedure to implant an energy pulse delivery component, the system receives a patient cardiogram collected during pacing of the energy pulse delivery component while the energy pulse delivery component is positioned at a current location within the heart. The system then determines based on the patient cardiogram the current location of the energy pulse delivery component. The system then outputs an indication of the current location to guide affixing of the energy pulse delivery component at the intended fixation location. This process is repeated until the energy pulse delivery component is at the fixation location. The system also evaluates the effectiveness of pacing at intermediate location to optimize the final location based upon simulated electro-mechanics of the system in near-real time.

The controller can also modify pacing characteristics based on variables including a signal received from the second sensor.

摘要: The present invention provides an advancement in the art of cardiac pacemakers. The invention provides a novel and unobvious pacemaker system that comprises at least one pacemaker and that is, to a large extent, self-controlled, allows for long-term implantation in a patient, and minimizes current inconveniences and problems associated with battery life. The invention further includes a mechanism in which at least two pacemakers are implanted in a patient, and in which the pacemakers communicate with each other at the time of a given pacing or respiratory event, without any required external input, and adjust pacing parameters to respond to the patient's need for blood flow. The invention further provides a novel design for a pacemaker in which the pacemaker electrode is connected to the pacemaker body by a lead that is configured to allow the pacemaker to lie parallel to the epicardial surface and to reduce stress on the pacemaker and heart tissue.
