Abstract: An orthopedic walker is disclosed that improves comfort and shock absorption during use by incorporating a flexure zone that deflects to ease the forces caused by the heel strike portion of a patient's gait. The flexure zone is created by cutting around the heel on the bottom of the sole to allow for the heel portion to flex. The exterior shell of the walker is may be made of a formable resilient material that when combined with an attached tongue structure reduces a volume of encapsulation of the lower limb. The shell encloses a padding on the inner side that may take the form of air/bladders and/or foam, and tabs on each side selectively engage receiving tabs on the inside lateral and medial side of the base upright portions. A separate tongue structure is used to enclose the foot and is made adjustable using various methods such as slits and novel connectors.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are orthopedic devices and methods to aid in reducing weight or pressure on a portion of a subject's foot while maintaining stability of the hindfoot and ankle. Certain embodiments include an upper assembly and a support pillar configured to extend beneath only a portion of a subject's foot. The support pillar can be configured to extend from the heel of a subject's foot to the subject's midfoot, such that at least a portion of the subject's forefoot extends lengthwise therebeyond and does not contact the support pillar. The orthopedic device can further include one or more means for securing the upper assembly around the leg, ankle, dorsal foot, or a combination thereof. Additional aspects include a method of promoting the healing of a podiatric condition using any one or more of the orthopedic devices disclosed herein.

Abstract: An outsole for an orthopedic device includes a heel part, a forefoot part, and a mid-foot part separating the heel part from the forefoot part. A longitudinal axis extends in a longitudinal direction between an anterior end of the forefoot part and a posterior end of the heel part. A transverse axis intersects the longitudinal axis and extends in a transverse direction between a lateral edge of the outsole and a medial edge of the outsole. A bottom surface extends along the longitudinal axis and between the medial and lateral edges. The bottom surface defines an apex at the intersection of the longitudinal and transverse axes and at least one apical line passing through the apex and subtending an oblique angle to the longitudinal axis. The bottom surface curves through the apex and along the at least one apical line in both the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Abstract: The ankle foot orthosis solves a problem of a poor adaptation to a user's foot (3) and the related discomfort. It provides for simultaneous correction of several symptoms in the foot and ankle areas. It is completely produced from a uniform material, the thickness and shape of which change depending on user's specific needs. It is designed in such a way that it does not intervene with other functions of a user's foot. It is manufactured by preparing a 3D model of a user's foot when placed in a physiologically correct static position, by modelling the ankle foot orthosis directly to a 3D model of the foot (3), by 3D printing from preferably a photopolymer, and by adequate post-processing. Due to its minimalistic design, the user can wear the orthosis in a shoe of his appropriate foot size.
