Abstract: To securely do turning to the cylindrical body part of an outer ring even if the axial length of the fitting tolerance part thereof is short in a bearing device for a vehicle. After the outer and inner peripheral surfaces of the cylindrical body part are made turning in a state where a holding device holds the flange of the outer ring, the turning surfaces of the cylindrical part are held. The side-face on vehicle inner side of the flange and the outer peripheral surface of the fitting tolerance part are finished by turning based on the turning surfaces of the held cylindrical body part.

Abstract: An outer ring of a bearing device for a vehicle has a cylindrical main body extending from an inner vehicle side to an axially opposite side. The main body has a raceway at an inner peripheral surface. A flange is provided at an outer peripheral surface of the outer ring toward the ring's vehicle inner side end. A cylindrical fitting tolerance part also is provided at the outer peripheral surface of the outer ring, at a position closer to the vehicle inner side end than the flange. The axial length of the cylindrical fitting tolerance part may be designed to be any of various lengths. The bearing device is manufactured by turning the cylindrical main body while holding the flange, such as for embodiments in which the cylindrical fitting tolerance part has a short length unsuitable for holding.

Abstract: There is disclosed a bearing device in which a double row angular contact ball bearing is mounted to an outer periphery of a hub wheel, a caulking portion is bent diametrically outward and caulked on an end face of an inner ring of a bearing, thereby preventing the bearing from falling out from the bearing device and to applying a pre-load to the bearing. An axially outer edge of the inner ring is chamfered roundly, the caulking portion is provided at its shaft end with a small-diameter portion, and a starting point of the small-diameter portion is located closer to an axially central portion than a chamfer-starting point of the axially outer edge of the inner ring.

Abstract: In a bearing device in which a free end of a shaft body to which a rolling bearing is mounted is bent outward in its radial direction into a shape to be pushed against an end face of an inner ring of the rolling bearing so as to prevent the rolling bearing from falling out, a raceway surface of the inner ring of the rolling bearing is subjected to hardening treatment, and another portion of the inner ring is made of raw material which is not hardened. With this arrangement, the caulked portion formed by the caulking plastically deforms the relatively soft inner peripheral corner of the inner ring and as a result, the caulked portion and the inner peripheral corner are adhered to each other strongly.

Abstract: A bearing device comprising a shaft body having an axially cylindrical portion in a free end side thereof and a rolling bearing fitted around an outer peripheral surface of the shaft body, wherein the cylindrical portion is bent and deformed radially outward by a rolling caulking to be caulked thereby on an outer end face of an inner ring of the rolling bearing. An inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion is formed by a turning work, and a residual stress left in a surface layer of the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion by the turning work is set to a value capable of restraining a crack generation ratio in the inner peripheral surface to less than a predetermined rate, desirably to not more than 5 kgf/mm2.
