Abstract: In a telecommunication network, a Serving Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF) may be coupled with a Fifth Generation (5G) Equipment Identity Register (EIR) via an N17′ interface. In some examples, the S-CSCF can use the N17′ interface instead of a diameter protocol for communicating with the 5G-EIR. The S-CSCF can send a request to the 5G-EIR including a Permanent Equipment Identifier (PEI) associated with a user equipment (UE). In response, the S-CSCF can receive identity data indicative of whether the UE is authorized, not authorized, partially authorized, or unknown. Based on the identity data, the S-CSCF can authenticate a user equipment (UE) accessing a network. In some examples, the S-CSCF may route requests between a 5G-EIR and an EIR. In some examples, this authentication step can comprise a second-level authentication to identify stolen or fraudulent devices and to prevent such devices from accessing the network.

Abstract: The techniques include receiving a handover request from a user device connected to a first access network and identifying a Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) serving the user device. The user device provides to the N3IWF, measurement report indicating network conditions. The techniques further include receiving the measurement report from the N3IWF and determining whether a measurement in the measurement report is above a predetermined threshold. If the measurement is above the predetermined threshold, the handover request is accepted to enable the user device to connect to a second access network.

Abstract: Solutions for providing a data traffic session with proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF) restoration include: receiving an indication, by an application server (AS), that a user equipment (UE) is registered with a first proxy node; receiving, at a subscriber information node, from a call session control function (e.g., over an N70 interface), a first message triggering proxy node restoration; based on at least receiving the first message triggering proxy node restoration, transmitting, by the subscriber information node, to a management node, a second message triggering proxy node restoration; receiving an indication, by the AS, that the UE is registered with a second proxy node different than the first proxy node; and based on at least receiving a session initiation message, establishing the data traffic session for the UE with the second proxy node.

Abstract: A network operator can partition network elements, including elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) or Policy and Charging Rules Functions (PCRFs) into groups reserved for specific types of subscribers. When a user equipment (UE) registers with an IMS, elements of the IMS can contact a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) to determine a subscriber type associated with the UE. Based on the UE's subscriber type, an IMS element can determine an application server or other IMS element to contact about the UE based on identifying application servers or IMS elements that are also associated with the same subscriber type as the UE. Similarly, an IMS element can determine a PCRF to contact about the UE based on identifying a PCRF that is associated with the same subscriber type as the UE.

Abstract: A communication session for a UE can be restored in the event of serving call session control function (S-CSCF) node unavailability and/or application server (AS) unavailability by storing, prior to IMS unavailability, attribute-value pairs (AVPs) at a home subscriber server (HSS). These AVPs can be used independently by individual IMS nodes to restore a communication session for a UE due to an unavailable IMS node. When a first S-CSCF node becomes unavailable, a proxy CSCF (P-CSCF) node can send a SIP request originating from the UE to a second S-CSCF node. The second S-CSCF node can then send a request to the HSS for an identifier of an AS associated with the UE. Upon receipt of the AS identifier (e.g., an active AS name AVP) from the HSS, the second S-CSCF node can send the SIP request to the AS in order to restore the communication session for the UE.

Abstract: A method for discovering an interface session within a wireless communication network is discussed herein. The method includes establishing an Internet Protocol (IP) packet-switched network registration between a first node of a plurality of nodes within the wireless communication network and a second node of the plurality of nodes. The method further includes, requesting, by a third node of the plurality of nodes from a fourth node of the plurality of nodes, service for a call of a mobile device within the wireless communication network. Based upon not having an appropriate interface session established between the first node and the fourth node, the method also includes performing, by the fourth node, an interface session discovery. Based at least in part on the interface session discovery, a dedicated bearer is established at the second node for the call.

Abstract: Telecommunication network components configured to manage a handover of a communication session of user equipment from a packet-switched access network to a circuit-switched access network are described herein. The components may receive a handover request from user equipment, allocate circuit-switched access network resources, and request a session transfer. When the session transfer is invalid, e.g., during a pre-establishment phase of a communication session, the components may reject the transfer within a selected time and provide an invalid-handover message. Components may, in response to an invalid handover request, transmit a rejection of the session transfer and a fallback-trigger message.

Abstract: One or more timers can be used by an originating UE during setup of a communication session. The timer(s) can be triggered by an originating UE sending a request or receiving a response that uses a first signaling protocol. The timer(s) can further be terminated by the originating UE sending a request or receiving a response that uses a second signaling protocol different from the first signaling protocol, so long as the request/response using the second signaling protocol occurs before timeout of the timer(s).
