A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving control information in a wireless communication system. A method in a base station includes transmitting, to a terminal, information associated with a number of Control Channel Elements (CCEs) included in control channels; identifying a set of control channel candidates based on an IDentifier (ID) of the terminal and the information associated with the number of CCEs, wherein each control channel candidate includes one, two, four, or eight CCEs; selecting at least one control channel candidate from among the set of control channel candidates; and transmitting the control information to the terminal via the selected at least one control channel candidate.

A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting control information in a base station for a wireless communication system. The method includes receiving, from a terminal, a channel quality indicator (CQI); determining at least one control channel element (CCE) for a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) based on the received CQI and an identifier (ID) of the terminal; and transmitting, to the terminal, control information on the PDCCH including the determined at least one CCE. A number of the at least one CCE is determined based on the CQI.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for transmitting data. An index of a first resource block is obtained from a scheduling grant. A user equipment determines a value related to hopping based on a sequence generated by cell specific information. The user equipment determines a value related to mirroring based on the sequence generated by the cell specific information. The user equipment determines a second resource block for uplink transmission by the index of the first resource block, the value related to hopping, and the value related to mirroring.

A method for configuring gain factors in a WCDMA telecommunication system is provided in which the gain factor for defining power required for normal reception of uplink data in an environment supporting an uplink service over an E-DCH can be configured using minimal signaling information. First gain factors for first TFs corresponding to a part of a TF set including a plurality of TFs available for an uplink service are received. One of the first TFs is determined as a reference TF for a second TF other than the first TFs in the TF set. Then, a second gain factor for the second TF is calculated using the first gain factor for the determined reference TF. The second gain factor is used for transmitting or receiving uplink data.

A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving downlink control information in a mobile communication system supporting an uplink packet data service are provided. To transmit packet data in an HARQ mobile communication system, a second transceiver receives an RG as rate control information from a first transceiver. The second transceiver sets the allowed maximum data rate of an HARQ process to which the RG is applied to the allowed maximum data rate of an HARQ process previous to the HARQ process, if the RG indicates hold. The second transceiver transmits packet data within the set allowed maximum data rate to the first transceiver.

A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting power headroom information by a terminal in a mobile communication system. The method includes receiving, by the terminal, information for an allocated uplink transmission resource; identifying whether a path loss has changed by more than a threshold, after transmitting last power headroom information, when the terminal has the allocated uplink transmission resource; in case that the path loss has changed by more than the threshold when the terminal has the allocated uplink transmission resource, determining a transmission of the power headroom information; and transmitting an uplink packet including the power headroom information based on the allocated uplink transmission resource. The power headroom information is obtained based on a difference between a maximum transmission power of the terminal and a transmission power of the terminal.

The method includes receiving, by the terminal, information on an allocated uplink transmission resource; determining whether a path loss has changed more than a threshold, after transmitting last power headroom information, when the terminal has the allocated transmission resource; if the path loss has changed more than the threshold when the terminal has the allocated transmission resource, determining a transmission of the power headroom information; and transmitting an uplink packet including the power headroom information using the allocated uplink transmission resource.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for communication between a UE and a node B in a communication system. The UE generates a media access control protocol data unit (MAC PDU) comprising at least one media access control service data unit (MAC SDU) and at least one field related to an amount of data. Each of the at least one field related to the amount of data corresponds to a respective identifier, and the at least one field related to the amount of data is placed prior to the at least one MAC SDU in the MAC PDU. The MAC PDU comprising the at least one MAC SDU and the at least one field related to the amount of data is transmitted to the node B. Grant information is received from the node B. Data is transmitted to the node B based on the grant information.
