The number of Band Offset (BO) modes and the number of necessary offsets is reduced. The invention beneficially provides simpler coding, reduces temporary buffer size requirements, and can yield a small performance gain over existing SAO techniques of HEVC test model HM 5.

摘要: An encoder/decoder is described using enhanced signaling mechanisms SAO parameters. The various parameters are signaled in various ways according to different embodiments of the invention. In a first embodiment (embodiment A), SAO on/off is decoupled form SAO type coding, with SAO on/off flags being jointly encoded for all color components. The second embodiment (embodiment B), is similar to embodiment A, but modified for application to JCTVC-J0268. In a third embodiment separate signaling is provided for SAO on/off, SAO types BO and EO, and for BO and EO side information (classes or band position). Each of these enhanced SAO signaling mechanisms provide enhanced coding efficiency.

摘要: The quantization parameters (QP) for Chroma are extended up to and more preferably to the same range as Luma QP (e.g., 0 to 51). Previous, values of Chroma QP only extended up to 39. Techniques are provided for determining extended Chroma QP values (e.g., for Cr and Cb) based on the Luma QP and picture level chroma offsets. In one preferred embodiment, slice level offsets are added making the method particularly well-suited for slice level parallel processing. The extension of Chroma QP enhances functionality, flexibility and friendliness of the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard for various applications.

摘要: Syntax changes for SHVC/MV-HEVC coding apparatus and methods are described which improve efficiency. In a first portion, syntax of header signaling position under P or B-slice conditions are described, and a new condition to signal inter-layer prediction layer. A second portion describes use of an inter-layer reference picture set as an alternative to the first portion, and provides an arranged syntax to more efficiently signal inter-layer reference information. In a third portion, an inter-layer sample only prediction and TMVP interaction is described which reduces signaling needs for collocated references syntax.
