Abstract:
Crosslinkable polymers having about 1 to 100% of units derived from an unsaturated ester of furoic acid of the formula: ##STR1## where R denotes hydrogen or an alkyl group, R' denotes a straight-chain or branched alkylene group and n denotes an integer from 1 to 4, and 0 to about 99% of units from an unsaturated monomer which is copolymerizable with the ester. The crosslinkable polymers may be in the form of latices. The crosslinkable polymers are prepared by polymerization of the unsaturated ester of furoic acid and, if appropriate, an unsaturated comonomer, in aqueous emulsion. The polymers and latices can be used in the manufacture of coatings.
Abstract:
Latex of an interpolymer composed of (1) a copolymer A of butadiene, styrene and at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (2) a polymer B of a halogenohydroxyalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, polymer B being at least partially grafted onto the copolymer A. The latex is prepared by the emulsion polymerization of butadiene, styrene and at least one copolymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, followed by the polymerization, in the presence of the copolymer latex, of a halogenohydroxyalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid. The latex may be used as a binder in aqueous compositions for coating paper.

Latex of an interpolymer composed of (1) a copolymer A of butadiene, styrene and at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (2) a polymer B of at least one halogenoalkyl or halogenoacetoxyalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, polymer B being at least partially grafted onto the copolymer A.The latex is prepared by the emulsion polymerization of butadiene, styrene and at least one copolymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid to form a copolymer latex, followed by the polymerization in the presence of the copolymer latex of a halogenoalkyl or halogenoacetoxyalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid. The latex may be used as a binder in aqueous compositions for coating paper.

The present invention relates to a novel agent for promoting adhesion to a heat-insulating surface and in particular to a polystyrene surface, especially when wet or under the effect of a large variation in temperature. The invention also relates to the use of the said agent in a water-insoluble film-forming polymer composition or in a mineral binder composition for applications in the construction field and more particularly in external heat-insulation systems.
