    摘要: A portable route-based machine data collector stores audio files to supplement associated machine performance data, such as vibration data. The audio files, which may include voice comments, audio segments of raw vibration data, or frequency-shifted components of the vibration data, are stored in the data collector as standard-format digital audio files and are later downloaded to a computer for further analysis. Test personnel can then replay the audio files for data analysis personnel to get second opinions regarding whether machine faults may be indicated by the recorded sounds. Also, audio files associated with normal and abnormal machine operation may be saved on the portable data collector and used as baselines or for training purposes. Verbal operating instructions may also be stored as audio files on the portable data collector for replay by test operators in the field. In a case where the portable data collector is an ultrasonic monitoring unit, frequency-shifted (audible) ultrasonic data may be stored in an audio file in association with non-shifted ultrasonic data.

    摘要: A portable data collector and analyzer having multiple paths for performing multiple processing functions on a single sensor signal in parallel. The portable data collector has a sensor which creates a sensor signal that represents a measured property of an operating machine. The sensor signal is simultaneously sent to at least two processor channels that are connected in parallel. Each processor is capable of performing different types of signal analysis with varying signal conditioning and sampling rate requirements on the sensor signal independent of the other processor(s). An operator of the parallel processing data collector and analyzer places the single sensor on the area desired to be tested and instructs the parallel processing data collector to begin taking measurements. The parallel processor channels work independently of each other to obtain results corresponding to a number of different tests in approximately the time normally required to perform a single test.

    摘要: A water heater construction and method includes arranging the inner water tank and the surrounding outer shell in an inverted orientation and positioning the outer shell into a cover which is arranged with clearance openings for the plumbing connections extending from the top of the tank to extend therethrough. With the tank, shell and cover in an inverted and assembled condition, the annular clearance space defined between the tank and shell is filled, at least the majority, with liquid, foam-in-place insulation. By inverting the water heater and injecting liquid foam insulation material, the clearance space above the inner water tank is foamed first thereby assuring that the foam material at this location will have greater uniformity in foam density and cell structure than at the lower portion of the annular space so as to provide enhanced thermal efficiency at the most critical location.

    摘要: A water heater for containing water surrounded in spaced apart relationship by an outer shell includes a sleeve of insulation material, such as fiberglass, located in the annular space between the inner tank and outer sleeve. The top edge of the insulation sleeve includes an annular cuff which is of a radial thickness greater than the radial thickness of the rest of the insulation sleeve such that the cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and excterior wall surface of the inner tank. An expanded foam thermal insulation material fills the annular space above the cuff of the insulation mat. A method of making a water heater includes the steps of locating a sleeve of insulation material around the exterior wall surface of the inner tank, folding the top end of the insulation sleeve back over itself to form an annular cuff, and positioning the outer shell concentrically over the inner tank whereupon the annular cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and exterior wall surface of the inner tank. The annular space above the annular cuff of the sleeve is then filled with an expandable foam insulation material which is allowed to foam in situ.

The insulation material strips which are bonded to the flexible outer covering include a first plurality of flexible insulation material strips and a second plurality of rigid insulation material strips. These different material strips are arranged in alternating sequence and the combination of outer covering and insulation strips is sufficiently flexible and formable so as to be wrapped into a generally cylindrical shape which may then be disposed around a pipe, conduit, tank or related member, for thermally insulating that member. The outer covering may be a one-piece member or a hinged member.

    摘要: An insulation panel for an appliance for reducing one or more undesirable side effects due to the operation of the appliance such as noise, vibration and heat includes a first layer of enclosing material such as polyethylene or polypropylene which has greater tear resistance and configuring this first layer of enclosing material to a size and shape based upon the appliance and the area of the appliance to be covered. Next, a second layer of similar enclosing material is selected and configured so as to having a matching peripheral edge or contour with the first layer. Ultimately these two layers of enclosing material are joined together around their peripheral edges so as to define and completely enclose an interior cavity. Into this interior cavity a blanket of insulating material is dispersed of a generally uniform blanket thickness. In certain applications, the insulating material includes a binder so that the insulating material will not shift or settle relative to the enclosed cavity. The particular insulating material may either be selected for acoustical insulation, vibration dampening and/or thermal insulation. A singular purpose of the insulating material may be desired or multiple uses may be desired in which case part of the enclosed cavity may include acoustical insulation and part of the enclosed cavity may include vibration-dampening material.

    摘要: A modular acoustical panel for use in separating and dividing an interior space includes a generally hollow, open frame member having a generally rectangular wall portion which surrounds and defines a core-receiving space. A modular septum which is arranged with a center partition offset so as to have a surrounding wall and surrounding flange is preassembled with two layers of insulating material on opposite sides of the center portion of the offset partition. The modular septum is able to be assembled off-line and brought to the point of final assembly into the frame. The center portion of the modular septum and the two layers of insulating material are inserted into the core-receiving space and the outer flange of the partition attaches directly to the outer surface of the frame on one side. A spacer is provided on the opposite side to make the thickness symmetrical and thus account for the thickness of the flange portion. When the assembly of the modular septum to the frame member is completed, the entire assembly is covered with exterior material applied to both sides of the panel.

    摘要: An appliance, such as a refrigerator or water heater construction, typically includes a first wall in surrounding spaced apart relationship to a second wall. An insulating and sealing device of insulation material, such as fiberglass or foamed material partially enclosed in an open-topped envelope of plastic or foil material is circumferentially located in the space between the first wall and outer wall at a preselected location within the space. The insulating and sealing device which is of a radial thickness greater than the radial width of the space is radially compressed between the first wall surface and second wall surface. An expanded foam thermal insulation material fills the space to one side of the insulating and sealing device. A method of making the appliance having two spaced apart walls includes the steps of positioning an insulating and sealing device of resilient, flexible insulation material on and in contact with one of the walls, the insulating and sealing device having a radial thickness greater than the radial width of the space, and positioning the two walls into transverse spaced apart relationship radially compressing the collar between the two walls. In another embodiment, the method of making the appliance includes the steps of positioning the two walls in transverse spaced apart relationship, and positioning an insulating and sealing device of resilient, flexible insulation material within the space in contact with the facing surfaces of the two walls, the insulating and sealing device having a radial thickness greater than the width of the space.

    摘要: A water heater which may be either gas or electric and designed for use in either residential or commercial applications includes a generally cylindrical molded plastic inner water tank and a generally cylindrical molded plastic outer shell which is sized somewhat larger than the outside diameter of the tank and is disposed around the tank so as to define an annular clearance space between the shell and the tank. By means of covers and end members the clearance space between the tank and the shell are sealed closed so that a vacuum can be drawn on this closed clearance space and thereby provide thermal insulation for the inner water tank by means of the vacuum. A related construction includes a double-walled outer shell wherein the two walls are spaced apart from one another so as to define a clearance space therebetween. This clearance space is sealed closed and a vacuum drawn in order to provide the requisite insulation for the inner water tank which is disposed on the interior of the shell.
