Abstract:
Apparatus, and associated method, for facilitating reverse link scheduling in a CDMA 2000 communication system (FIG. 1, 10) that provides for high data rate communication services, such as 1xEV-DV communication services. Power control bits (FIG. 1, 46) used to perform power control on the reverse link are punctured with rate grant control bits and HARQ indications. A power control bit puncturer (FIG. 1, 48) punctures the power control bits with the rate grant control bits and HARQ indications. Physical layer signaling is thereby provided without the need to define additional control channels operations.
Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, for allocating resources in a communication system, such as a multi-code, multi-rate CDMA communication system. Communication indicia by which data to be communicated during operation of the communication system is coded and modulated is selected responsive to communication characteristics of the communication channel upon which the data is to be communicated. The levels of coding and modulating are determined responsive to measured levels of the communication characteristics on the channel. Also, a scheduler by which to schedule packet communication upon a shared communication channel is provided.
Abstract:
A method comprising receiving a plurality of data packets each associated with one of a plurality of carriers, deriving an input bit stream indicative of the receipt of the plurality of data packets, utilizing an output block code to convert the input bit stream into an output bit stream, and transmitting the output bit stream to at least one of the plurality of carriers.
Abstract:
Adaptive precoding codebooks are described. In one embodiment, the method of wireless communication includes reading at least a rank-2 baseline codebook having codewords representing precoding matrices. An adaptive codebook is generated by multiplying a first column of the codeword with a first transform matrix calculated from a channel correlation matrix, and multiplying a second column of the codeword with a second transform matrix calculated from the channel correlation matrix. The first and the second transform matrices are orthogonal.
Abstract:
A system and method for channel information feedback in a wireless communications system is provided. A method for communications device operation includes receiving a pilot transmitted by a controller, computing a channel estimate for a channel between the controller and a communications device, the computing based on the pilot, computing a channel correlation matrix for the channel based on the channel estimate, and transmitting a reduced rank representation of the channel correlation matrix to the controller as a first feedback information. The method also includes adapting a first codebook based on the reduced rank representation of the channel correlation matrix, computing a representation of the channel using the adapted codebook, transmitting the representation of the channel as a second feedback information, and receiving a transmission beamformed based on the first feedback information and the second feedback information.
Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating operation of a radio communication system that provides for multi rate data communications, such as a CDMA 2000 system that provides for 1xEV-DV communication services. A supplemental pilot, or control, signal generator embodied at a mobile station generates a supplemental pilot, or control, signal that is sent on a newly defined supplemental pilot, or control, channel. As the data rates of data communicated upon a reverse supplemental channel changes, corresponding changes are made to the power level of the reverse supplemental pilot, or control, signal.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for employing six-bit rank 1 and 2 codebooks for multiple transmit antennas. A channel estimate is generated for a communications channel that can be established between a communications device and a controller serving the communications device. The channel estimate can be quantized using a codebook to produce a selected codeword. An index corresponding to the selected codeword can be transmitted to the controller. The codebook can include a plurality of first level codewords, with each first level codeword having a plurality of subsidiary codewords. The quantizing can be in the form of a search of the first level codewords followed by a search of a subset of a plurality of subsidiary codewords, and the codebook can be derived at least in part from a rank of communications between the communications device and the controller.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and system for scheduling data packets in a wireless communications system. The invention includes determining a priority for at least one data packet, wherein determining the priority of the data packet is based at least on a plurality of quality of service factors, wherein each of the plurality of QoS factors has a corresponding weighting factor and the determined priority includes minimum-performance guarantees. The invention further includes scheduling transmission of the at least one data packet based at least on the determined priority.

Abstract:
An approach is provided for addressing in a multiple carrier communication system. In one embodiment, a group index is assigned to a group of terminals of a communication network. The group index permits sharing of addressing indices supported by the communication network for transmission of data to the group of terminals. In another embodiment, a plurality of terminals is classified using preamble indices corresponding to the terminals into one or more classes. A multi-user packet, which utilizes the preamble indices to activate only a class of the terminals for processing the multi-user packet, is generated.
