Abstract: A medium handling device includes a storage means that stores a single or plural medium recognition reference information, a recognition means that uses the medium recognition reference information to recognize a state of a target medium, and a setting means that, when medium recognition reference information that is new and authentication information corresponding to the new medium recognition reference information are stored in the storage means, sets use of the new medium recognition reference information as either valid or invalid. When the setting means has set valid, the recognition means uses the corresponding new medium recognition reference information to recognize a state of the medium.

Abstract: An upper-side conveyance guide of a temporary holding section is provided with an upper-side movable guide that capable of moving in coordination with the drum diameter of a drum so as to be interposed between the upper-side conveyance guide and the drum at all times. The upper-side movable guide guides a banknote that is being conveyed gripped only at the center by a banknote conveying portion of a main tape, between the upper-side conveyance guide and the drum. Folding of the banknote is accordingly suppressed by the upper-side movable guide, enabling the banknote to be guided to a gap between the upper-side conveyance guide and a lower-side conveyance guide without catching on a rear face of the upper-side conveyance guide or the like. Accordingly, the banknote can be prevented from contacting portions that should not be contacted and causing conveyance issues as a result.

Abstract: A medium processing device includes a storage cassette, a casing for storing the storage cassette, a loading section that supports the storage cassette, a slide rail attached to the casing and the loading section, and that allows the loading section to move between the interior and the exterior of the internal space, and a connector. The connector is outside of a pass-through region through which the storage cassette passes in a case where loading the storage cassette into the loading hole of the loading section, and that, when the storage cassette has been loaded into the loading hole and is supported by the loading section, electrically connects the loading section and the storage cassette together. A protective portion is at the loading section, and protrudes out further than the connector in an opposite direction opposite to a loading direction in which the storage cassette is loaded into the loading hole.
