摘要: A porous material includes aggregate particles and a binding material. In the aggregate particles, oxide films containing cristobalite are provided on surfaces of particle bodies that are silicon carbide particles or silicon nitride particles. The binding material contains cordierite and binds the aggregate particles together in a state where pores are provided therein. The mass ratio of the cordierite to the whole of the porous material is in the range of 10 to 40 mass %. The oxide films that exist between the particle bodies and the binding material have a thickness less than or equal to 0.90 μm.

摘要: A honeycomb structure has a plurality of cells formed by a plurality of partition walls. The partition walls are formed of a porous material composed predominantly of cordierite. Each partition wall includes surface layer portions having a porosity of 50% or more and an inside portion having a porosity of 50% or more, the surface layer portions being portions ranging respectively from opposite surfaces to a depth corresponding to 25% of the thickness of the partition wall, and the inside portion being the other portion. The surface layer portions and the inside portion both include pores having axial pore widths of less than 30 μm and pores having axial pore widths of 30 μm or more. A mean axial pore width in the surface layer portions is smaller than a mean axial pore width in the inside portion.

摘要: A porous ceramic particle (16) has a pair of main surfaces (161, 162) in parallel with each other. An average porosity in a range (633) extending from one main surface (161) toward the other main surface (162) and having a thickness which is one fourth of a particle thickness that is a distance between the main surfaces is higher than that in a range (632) which is positioned in the center between the pair of main surfaces and has a thickness which is half of the particle thickness. The upper main surface (161) is a surface to be placed on an object. By limiting an area having a high porosity to the vicinity of the one main surface (161), it is possible to cause the porous ceramic particle (16) to have low thermal conductivity and low heat capacity and suppress a decrease in the mechanical strength.

摘要: An intermediate member is a member which is directly or indirectly sandwiched between a first object and a second object. The intermediate member includes a plate-like supporting member having a lower surface which is one main surface opposed to the first object and a plurality of ceramic blocks fixed on an upper surface which is the other main surface of the supporting member in a state of being separated from one another. Thus, in a state where the plurality of ceramic blocks are collectively held by the supporting member having relatively high shape retention, by disposing the intermediate member between the objects, it is possible to easily arrange the plurality of ceramic blocks between the objects with high positioning accuracy.

摘要: Provided herein is porous material which includes, as a framework of a porous structure, ZrO2 particles and a dissimilar material present on the surfaces of the ZrO2 particles. The dissimilar material includes at least one oxide selected from a first group of oxides and at least one oxide selected from a second group of oxides, or both. The first group of oxides includes, but is not limited to, SiO2, TiO2, La2O3, Al2O3, SrCO3, Gd2O3, Nb2O5, Y2O3, and a complex oxide including two or more of these oxides. The second group of oxides includes, but is not limited to, SiO2, TiO2, La2O3, Al2O3, SrCO3, Gd203, Nb2O5, Y2O3, and a complex oxide including two or more of the oxides, and ZrO2.
