In a nanostructured reactive substance and a process for producing the same, intermixing of silicon and oxidizing agent on a nanometer size scale permits virtually direct contact between the fuel and the oxidizing agent, only separated by a barrier layer. After the barrier layer is broken open, fuel and oxidizing agent are spatially directly together and can react, liberating energy. The reactive substance has a high reaction rate in comparison with conventional reactive materials.

The pusher itself is arrested by a brake positioned at the rear exit. In addition, the rear exit is closed by a diaphragm which may shatter after ignition of the propellant charge. The reaction mass may also comprise a front pusher face which is engaged with a rear brake positioned at the rear opening or it may comprise a plurality of layers of glass held to a pusher head which is arrested at the rear opening. In still another embodiment, the glass may comprise a plurality of flat discs held together in an assembly to a pusher member.

Moreover, the insensitive high explosive molding powder of the present invention has a bi-/tri-/tetramodal grain composition comprising coarse grain (280-360 μm with an upper limit of 500-700 μm) and fine grain (e.g., 35-45 μm) explosive crystals that a bonded by a binder system comprising a plasticizer and a binder. The molding powder of the present invention is coated in waterless solvent process having a solvent content of less than 0.01 wt. % and is immediately ready for pellet pressing.

Through the symmetrical arrangement of two detonators outside of the principal axis of the warhead, there is generated an areal, cutting charge jet-like particle stream or jet, which will produce a line-like penetrating crater in the target at a relatively extensive penetrating depth.
