Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communications in a radio communication system that utilizes shared, packet channels. One or more common control channels are defined upon a forward link extending between a network part of the radio communication system and the mobile stations thereof. Assignment information sets so generated by an assignment information generator and formatted into data frames for communication to the mobile stations. The mobile stations monitor a single shared packet control channel to receive the assignment information sent thereto upon the common shared channel.

Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, that reduces the occurrence of generation of redundant requests for retransmission of packet-formatted data, formatted at a physical layer and at a higher-logical layer, such as at an RLP layer. An estimate of an appropriate delay period is formed. The estimate is responsive to communication conditions in the communication system. When a data packet appears to have been inadequately delivered to the RLP logical layer, a DELAY_DETECTION_WINDOW timer is caused to time out the delay period estimated by the estimator. The request for retransmission, generated at the RLP layer, is permitted, upon expiration of the timer if the data packet has not yet been successfully delivered to the RLP layer and the transmitter has not given up the data packet delivery.
Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, for enhancing VoIP communication services at a selected QoS level in a radio communication system. Apparatus is embodied at a MAC (Medium Access Control) layer of the communication system by which selectably to cause retransmission and re-ordering of data communicated pursuant to effectuation of the communication service. A service request generator generates a service request that requests initiation the communication service in which data retransmission is effectuated at the MAC layer. And, a buffer is utilized at the MAC layer at which data is re-ordered, if necessary, to place the data in form for delivery to higher logical layers defined in the communication system.
Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, having a packet zone list timer embodied at a mobile node operable in a packet radio communication system. The packet zone list timer provides hysteresis to reduce the possibility of a ping-pong effect when a mobile node is operated at, or crosses, a packet zone boundary. A timer value used by the packet zone timer is selected at the mobile node without the need for network-generated commands to notify the mobile node of the timer value. Comparisons are made at the mobile node, and determinations are made at the mobile node as to whether registration of the mobile node is required.
Abstract:
An approach is provided for supporting end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) control. A QoS profile identifier is generated that maps to a QoS parameter. The identifier is transmitted over the radio communication system to an end station, wherein the end station determines the QoS parameter based on the received identifier. The approach also provides an alert mechanism in which the end station transmits an alert message upon detecting a deviation from the QoS parameter.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus for incorporation of a Reverse Link Control Hold Mode and MAC_ID assignment in a cdma2000 1xEV-DV communications system. The teachings herein provide for a reverse link Control Hold Mode for a cellular communications system, wherein a mobile station uses an R-PDCH channel with or without an F-PDCH channel being assigned; alternatively, where a mobile station uses a F-PDCH channel without an R-PDCH channel. A medium access control identification code (MAC_ID) assigned by a base station from a MAC_ID space to each one of a plurality of mobile stations; wherein the MAC_ID is assigned in an ascending (or descending) order from the MAC_ID space for a first group of mobile stations, and wherein the MAC_ID is assigned in a descending (or ascending) order from the MAC_ID space for a second group of mobile stations.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose. The frequency of full-header transmissions by the PDSN is increased from a normal mode to a high full-header frequency (HFHF) mode upon receiving a request for a full header from a mobile station, but returns to normal-mode full-header transition frequency after receiving an ACK message from the requesting mobile indicating successful decompressor synchronization, or upon the expiration of a predetermined HFHF-mode maximum duration.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for operating a mobile station with a base station, as well as apparatus for performing this method. The method includes, when the mobile station is in an Autonomous mode of operation, autonomously transmitting from the mobile station to the base station of a reverse access channel or a reverse supplemental channel (Transition 3); in response to receiving an acknowledgement indication from the base station, that comprises a reverse channel assignment message for the mobile station, switching the mobile station to a Scheduled mode of operation (Transition 4) and transmitting data from the mobile station on an assigned reverse channel.
Abstract:
Apparatus, and an associated method, for controlling RLP logical layer operations of a communication station, such as a mobile station or base transceiver station of a CDMA communication system that provides for both 1xRTT and 1xEV-DV communications. Modifications to existing data service options at the RLP logical layer are provided to facilitate RLP operations.
