An improved method for manufacturing an artificial fur from an intermediate pile cloth such as a double velvet weave fabric, a knitted pile fabric provided with two ground constructions and a connecting pile connecting these two ground constructions, and an intermediate pile cloth provided with looped pile projected upward from a ground construction fabric or knitted fabric or non-woven fabric. In the method of this invention, the continuity of the pile yarns of the intermediate pile cloth is broken by sliding separation, so as not to break at least a partial number of fibrous material which will become guard hair of the artificial fur.

An artificial fur composed of a warp pile fabric comprising a ground construction and pile yarns fixed to the ground construction and present in the form of fiber bundles within the ground construction. The pile yarns are composed of guard hair fibers and under fur fibers, the constituent fibers in the pile portion being opened and raised and the guard hair fibers of the pile yarns having the top ends thereof tapered. Plural kinds of pile yarns differing in at least one of the fineness, color, thickness, and length of fiber are used and a stripe pattern is manifested on the pile surface by arranging the alignment and/or density of the pile yarns appropriately.

The underfur fibers are shorter and of less denier. The guard hairs and underfur fibers are relatively longitudinally slidable to separate at least some of the fibers from others of the fibers.Temporary binding means may be connected to maintain the respective fibers in continuity and resistant to longitudinal sliding separation during one or more fabrication operations.Inactivation of the binding means breaks the continuity of said pile fibers whereupon at least some of the fibers may be longitudinally slidingly separated without being broken.
