    Abstract: Diphosphites having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and are C.sub.4 to C.sub.12 tertiary alkyl or C.sub.9 to C.sub.14 tertiary aralkyl;R.sup.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 to C.sub.18 alkyl or C.sub.7 to C.sub.18 aralkyl. These hydrolytically stable solid diphosphites are useful as antioxidants in organic polymers such as polypropylene.

    Abstract: Polymeric halogenated organophosphorus diols are obtained by reacting chlorine or bromine with spirocyclic phosphites and thereafter reacting the halogenated product with a diol, in the presence of an acid acceptor. These novel viscous polymers react with polyisocyantes to produce polyurethanes. Polyurethanes so made are characterized by improved flame retardant properties compared with conventional polyurethanes. Such polyurethanes are preferably in the form of foams, especially flexible foams.
