The invention relates to a process for obtaining .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitro-anthraquinones of high purity from crude mixtures obtained from the dinitration of anthraquinone. Such a mixture is placed in contact with an ester having a boiling point greater than 120.degree. C. derived from a mono- or di-carboxylic acid or phosphoric acid, at a temperature between 20.degree. and 200.degree. C. or more, then, after possible cooling, the insoluble material consisting essentially of the .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitro-anthraquinones is separated.

Pure 1-nitroanthraquinone substantially free of dinitroanthraquinone is prepared by:1. Nitrating anthraquinone or a mixture which contains anthraquinone with at least 90% nitric acid at a temperature of at least 0.degree. C wherein the mole ratio of nitric acid to anthraquinone is less than 20 to 1;2. Stopping the reaction when the anthraquinone conversion is at least 50% by cooling the reaction mixture to a temperature of at most 20.degree. C and/or by adjusting the mole fraction of nitric acid in the reaction mixture to a value of at most 0.86;3. Precipitating 1-nitroanthraquinone by adjusting the mole fraction of nitric acid to a value of from 0.7 to 0.4 and/or by reducing the temperature to at most 20.degree. C; and4. Separating the precipitated 1-nitroanthraquinone and subjecting it to vacuum distillation.

The invention relates to a process for obtaining 1,5-dinitro-anthraquinone of high purity from crude mixtures of dinitro-anthraquinones. Said mixture is treated at a temperature ranging from 150.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. with an ester having a boiling point greater than 150.degree. C. derived from an aliphatic alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and a mono- or di-carboxylic acid or phosphoric acid, and then, after possible cooling without the temperature falling below 150.degree. C., separating the insoluble material consisting essentially of 1,5-dinitro-anthraquinone.

An improved process for the preparation of nitrosobenzene by the catalytic reduction of nitrosobenzene is disclosed. The improvement in the process comprises utilizing as a reducing agent a compound selected from the group consisting of aliphatic compounds containing from about one to about twenty carbon atoms, benzene, naphthalene and ethylenically unsaturated compounds containing from about two to about 10 carbon atoms.
摘要:
A process for separating 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone and 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone by heating a dinitroanthraquinone mixture, in a mixture of from 5 to 85 per cent by weight of N-methylpyrrolidone and from 95 to 15 per cent by weight of an organic liquid which boils at from 80.degree. to 210.degree. C and is miscible in all proportions with N-methylpyrrolidone, at from 60.degree. to 180.degree. C, and separating off the undissolved material, at the extraction temperature, after the solution equilibrium has been reached. The insoluble material contains more than 85 per cent by weight, and as a rule more than 90 per cent by weight, of 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone. From the extract, it is possible to isolate the dissolved 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone together with the dissolved 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone and any byproducts which may be present.
