    Abstract: A device for monitoring an environment is disclosed. The device comprises a processor configured to: receive input from one or more sensors, which together are associated with a plurality of locations in the environment; based on the input: detect an object at a first time, and output a first instruction for outputting a first deterrent; and determine whether a predetermined condition is met with respect to one or more of: a location of the object at a later time or a direction of travel of the object at a later time; and if the predetermined condition is met, output a second instruction to another device, the second instruction being associated with a process for outputting a second deterrent.

    Abstract: One embodiment relates to an apparatus for detecting an object in an environment, the apparatus comprising: a camera controllable to switch from a first to a second mode to prepare the camera to capture an image; a processor, wherein the processor is arranged to receive motion detection data associated with a first monitoring region in said environment, and measured wave reflection data associated with a second monitoring region obtained by an active reflected wave detector, wherein the first monitoring region includes at least part of the second monitoring region and extends beyond the second monitoring region in at least one direction. In response to the processor detecting motion in the first monitoring region, the processor is configured to: activate the active reflected wave detector; determine whether a predetermined condition is met; if the condition is met, perform at least one operation related to camera image data.

    Abstract: A system comprising a plurality of devices configured for use at a site. The plurality of devices comprise one or more sensing devices; and one or more other devices for performing an action commanded by a remote computing system. Each sensing device comprises a sensor for sensing an event and a communications system for communicating a wireless signal for at least one of the other devices of the plurality of devices at the site to perform a wakeup response comprising exiting from a low power mode. Each device of the other devices is configured to exit from the low power mode responsive to receiving at least part of a wireless signal for the device to perform the wakeup response from a device of said sensing devices.
