    Abstract: A liquid lens can include a chamber with first and second fluids and an interface between the fluids. A first electrode can be insulated from the fluids, and a second electrode can be in electrical communication with the first fluid. A position of the interface can be based at least in part on a voltage applied between the first and second electrodes. A flexure can be configured to cause a window to displace axially along an optical axis to change a volume of the chamber. The flexure can extend laterally outward from the window substantially linearly, and can be formed between a first recess on an outer side of the liquid lens and a second recess on an inner side of the liquid lens. The second recess can extend laterally outward farther than the first recess such that the first recess and the second recess are offset from each other.

    Abstract: A method of laser bonding glass to metal foil includes contacting a first glass substrate with a first metal foil to create a first contact location; directing a laser beam on the first contact location to bond the first glass substrate to the first metal foil; contacting a second glass substrate with a second metal foil to create a second contact location; and directing the laser beam on the second contact location to bond the second glass substrate to the second metal foil, wherein the first metal foil and the second metal foil each have a thickness from 5 μm to 100 μm, and wherein the laser beam comprises a pulsed laser comprising: a pulse energy from 2.8 μJ to 1000 μJ; and a wavelength such that the first and second glass substrates are substantially transparent to the wavelength.

    Abstract: A liquid lens can include a chamber and a first fluid and a second fluid contained in the chamber. The first fluid and the second fluid may be immiscible, forming a fluid interface between the two fluids. The liquid lens may also include a first electrode insulated from the two fluids. The liquid lens may include a second electrode in electrical communication with the first fluid. The liquid lens may be configured such that a position of the fluid interface is based at least in part on voltages applied to the electrodes. The lens may further include a window configured to transmit light therethrough along an optical axis. Further, a flexible member may be configured to cause the window to displace axially along the optical axis to change the volume of the chamber.
