Abstract: A bonding operation to increase the bond between a coating layer and substrate is described. The coating layer may be designed to resist residue on a substrate that covers a display of an electronic device. An adhesion layer including silica (SiO2) and a catalyst or dopant, such as zirconium, may be used to bond the coating layer with the substrate. The dopant can alter the chemical nature of the adhesion layer and increase the number of chemical bonding sites at a bonding surface of the adhesion layer, thereby creating an activated bonding surface. One activated surface of the adhesion layer can be bonded with the substrate, while another activated surface of the adhesion layer can be bonded with the coating layer.

Abstract: This application relates to a combination vapor deposition process chamber. In, some embodiments, a combination vapor deposition process chamber can be used to apply an optical coating to a substrate such as glass, as well as an anti-smudge coating to the same substrate. The combination vapor deposition process chamber can include a sputter target, reactive gas and plasma source, and an anti-smudge coating source. Both sputter deposition and evaporation deposition can be performed with the combination vapor deposition process chamber without exposing the substrate to open air and contaminants between deposition processes. In some embodiments, the combination vapor deposition process chamber uses multiple sub-process chambers connected by a low pressure passageway for transferring substrates between deposition processes.

Abstract: A touch sensor panel including one or more conductive sections disposed in an outer area of a touch sensor panel is disclosed. The touch sensor panel stackup can include a substrate, one or more underlying layers, one or more patterned transparent conductive layers, and one or more conductive sections. In some examples, the stackup can include one or more passivation layers. The one or more underlying layers, patterned transparent conductive layers, one or more conductive sections, and passivation layers can be deposited on the same side of the substrate, on different sides of the substrate, or on different substrates. Abstract: Disclosed herein are liquid-crystal display (LCD) touch screens that integrate the touch sensing elements with the display circuitry. The integration may take a variety of forms. Touch sensing elements can be completely implemented within the LCD stackup but outside the not between the color filter plate and the array plate. Alternatively, some touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates with other touch sensing elements not between the plates. In another alternative, all touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates. The latter alternative can include both conventional and in-plane-switching (IPS) LCDs. In some forms, one or more display structures can also have a touch sensing function. Techniques for manufacturing and operating such displays, as well as various devices embodying such displays are also disclosed.

Abstract: Touch sensor panels typically include a plurality of layers that can be stacked on top of each other. When the touch sensor panel is used in a bright environment, incident light can hit the interfaces between those layers of the stackup having mismatched refractive indices and can reflect off those interfaces. The light reflected from those interfaces can give rise to the appearance of fringes on the touch sensor panel, which can be visually distracting. In order to reduce the appearance of these fringes, embodiments of the disclosure are directed to the addition of an index matching passivation layer between a conductive layer of traces and an adhesive layer in the touch sensor panel stackup.

Abstract: A touch screen including display pixels with capacitive elements is provided. The touch screen includes first common voltage lines connecting capacitive elements in adjacent display pixels, and a second common voltage line connecting first common voltage lines. Groups of pixels can be formed as electrically separated regions by including breaks in the common voltage lines. The regions can include a drive region that is stimulated by stimulation signals, a sense region that receives sense signals corresponding to the stimulation signals. A grounded region can also be included, for example, between a sense region and a drive region. A shield layer can be formed of a substantially high resistance material and disposed to shield a sense region. A black mask line and conductive line under the black mask line can be included, for example, to provide low-resistance paths between a region of pixels and touch circuitry outside the touch screen borders.

Abstract: This relates to displays for which the use of dual function capacitive elements does not result in any decreases of the aperture of the display. Thus, touch sensitive displays that have aperture ratios that are no worse than similar non-touch sensing displays can be manufactured. More specifically, this relates to placing touch sensing opaque elements so as to ensure that they are substantially overlapped by display related opaque elements, thus ensuring that the addition of the touch sensing elements does not substantially reduce the aperture ratio. Abstract: Touch sensor panel configurations for reducing wobble error for a stylus translating on a surface over and between electrodes of the touch sensor panel are disclosed. In some examples, electrodes with more linear signal profiles are correlated with lower wobble error. In some examples, diffusing elements formed of floating segments of conductive materials can diffuse signal from a stylus to a plurality of electrodes, thus, making the signal profiles associated with the electrodes more linear.
