Abstract: A composition comprises: a base oil; an additive comprising a copolymer comprising hydrophobic and hydrophilic units; and a drug. The copolymer may for example have a comb structure in which the hydrophobic units and hydrophilic units are pendant chains on a backbone of the copolymer. The hydrophobic units and hydrophilic units may for example comprise polydimethylsiloxane moieties and ethylene glycol residues respectively. The composition may for example be used as a tamponade or as a component for a tamponade administered to the eye. The invention is useful for solubilising and/or releasing drugs.

Abstract: Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) encompasses a heterogeneous group of cancers derived from renal tubular epithelial cells and has a worldwide mortality. However, mortality rates have barely improved over the last 20 years. Novel biomarkers and biomarkers are thus urgently required for this cancer. The inventors have devised a strategy to produce mouse cancer cell lines of progressively enhanced aggressiveness and specialization. The mouse renal cancer cell line RENCA was serially passaged in vivo using multiple implantation strategies designed to replicate different aspects of primary tumour growth and metastasis. Transcriptomic and epigenomic data has been acquired for the derived cell lines and primary analyses have been performed. The inventors then selected plurality of genes with no reported role in RCC which were upregulated in their specialized cell lines, and checked their relevance in patient data and clinical samples. This approach contributes to identify 4 serum biomarkers, namely IL-34, SAA2, PONL1 and CFB that are suitable for predicting survival time in patients suffering from RCC. The inventors also validated that the 4 proteins are also biotargets for the treatment of RCC.

Abstract: Responsive or degradable branched polymers may be prepared by the free radical polymerisation of a multivinyl monomer in the presence of a chain transfer agent, using a source of radicals, wherein the extent of propagation is controlled relative to the extent of chain transfer to prevent gelation of the polymer. Abstract: A method of selecting wavelengths of radiation for discriminating a first cell or tissue type from a different cell or tissue type is described. First and second sets of absorption spectra are obtained, each set comprising spectra obtained at a plurality of different spatial regions of the first cell or tissue type and of the different cell or tissue type, respectively. Sets of corresponding metrics are defined for the first and second sets of absorption spectra for each spatial region. Each metric comprises information corresponding to the absorption for at least two different wavelengths. The metrics in each set comprise different combinations of wavelengths. A characteristic value is generated for each metric. Distributions are generated for each metric using corresponding characteristic values for the first cell or tissue type and for the different cell or tissue type and compared to determine an extent of similarity. The metrics are ranked based on the extent of similarity and wavelengths associated with higher ranked metrics, having higher similarities, are selected.
