摘要: Additives are produced by (i) reacting an O,O-dihydrocarbyl phosphorodithioic acid with a monoepoxide or mixture of monoepoxides having in the range of 20 to about 30 carbon atoms in the molecule, (ii) reacting the product with phosphorus pentoxide to produce an acid phosphate intermediate, and (iii) neutralizing the intermediate with at least one amine. At least 50 mole % , and preferably all, of the hydrocarbyl groups of the O,O-dihydrocarbyl phosphorodithioic acid are secondary acyclic hydrocarbyl groups free of acetylenic unsaturation. The balance, if any, of such hydrocarbyl groups are primary acyclic hydrocarbyl groups free of acetylenic unsaturation. The additives are multifunctional in that they have limited slip properties, antiwear/extreme pressure properties, and corrosion inhibiting properties.

摘要: An effective way is described for overcoming the shudder problem associated with continuous slip torque converter clutches for use in automatic transmissions, especially shudder which occurs with new friction materials before break-in. To do this, an ATF is used in which the friction modifier system consists essentially of (i) an N-aliphatic hydrocarbyl-substituted diethanolamine in which the N-aliphatic hydrocarbyl-substituent is at least one straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbyl group free of acetylenic unsaturation and having in the range of 14 to 20 carbon atoms, and (ii) an N-aliphatic hydrocarbyl-substituted trimethylenediamine in which the N-aliphatic hydrocarbyl-substituent is at least one straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbyl group free of acetylenic unsaturation and having in the range of about 14 to about 20 carbon atoms. The ATF is devoid of any tertiary amine friction modifier component and any C.sub.12-36 aliphatic hydrocarbyl succinimide or succinamide friction modifier. Specified relative proportions and concentrations of (i) to (ii) are used.

摘要: The lubricating compositions of the present invention are designed for use in a four stroke outboard marine engine and contain an oil of lubricating viscosity, an ashless dispersant, a metal detergent, a rust inhibitor, a relatively high amount of ZDDP, and an amount of a molybdenum compound sufficient to provide the composition with 15-1,000 ppm by mass of molybdenum. An amount of about 15 ppm to 1,000 ppm by mass of molybdenum from a molybdenum compound has been found to be effective as an antiwear agent in combination with the high levels of ZDDP.

摘要: An ashless or low-ash oleaginous liquid composition comprising a major amount of hydrogenated poly-.alpha.-olefin oligomer fluid having a viscosity in the range of about 2 to about 10 cSt at 100.degree. C., and minor amounts of at least the following: A) hydrogenated poly-.alpha.-olefin oligomer fluid having a viscosity in the range of about 40 to about 120 cSt at 100.degree. C.; and B) antiwear/extreme pressure agent selected from phosphorus-containing ashless dispersant, boron-containing ashless dispersant, and phosphorus- and boron-containing ashless dispersant. Compositions of this type can be formed having excellent high and low temperature viscosity characteristics and excellent shear stability. To this end, the preferred compositions are devoid or substantially devoid of conventional polymeric high molecular weight viscosity index improvers.

摘要: A new friction modifier system is described. It has the capability of establishing and maintaining a substantially constant static breakaway coefficient of friction between a pair of friction surfaces that are periodically frictionally engaged with each other. Also this system is capable of maintaining a substantially constant ratio between (i) the low speed dynamic coefficient of friction of such friction surfaces, and (ii) the (midpoint) dynamic coefficient of friction of such friction surfaces. The additive composition yielding these results comprises at least the following components: a) a hydroxyalkyl aliphatic imidazoline in which the hydroxyalkyl group contains from 2 to about 4 carbon atoms, and in which the aliphatic group is an acyclic hydrocarbyl group containing from about 10 to about 25 carbon atoms; and b) a di(hydroxyalkyl) aliphatic tertiary amine in which the hydroxyalkyl groups, being the same or different, each contain from 2 to about 4 carbon atoms, and in which the aliphatic group is an acyclic hydrocarbyl group containing from about 10 to about 25 carbon atoms.
