摘要:
A keyboard operated musical instrument is disclosed in which the number of tone generators can be less than the number of keyswitches in a keyboard array of keyswitches. A binary-tree search is programmed to search subsets of the keyswitches to find keyswitches that have been actuated. The subsets are selected in an adaptive fashion which minimizes the search time required to detect and identify all the actuated keyswitches. A modular assignment subsystem is described whereby tone generators are assigned to actuated keyswitches according to a predetermined priority logic.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument is disclosed which has a number of tone generators that are assigned to actuated keyswitches. Musical tones are produced by computing a master data set which defines the data points for a period of the musical waveshape. The computation uses a preselected set of harmonic coefficients. Provision is made for altering the harmonic coefficients to produce waveshapes which are derivatives or integrals of the basic waveshape. The order of differentiation or integration can be varied to produce time variant tone effects.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument is disclosed which has a number of tone generators which are assigned to actuated keyswitches. Musical tones having an anharmonic overtones structure are produced by generating a number of component waveshapes each having a different fundamental frequency. These component waveshapes are summed to produce a single tone. Each component waveshape has a spectral content of a preselected subset of non-zero harmonic coefficients. The various components have mutually exclusive selection for the non-zero harmonic coefficients.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument is disclosed in which an independent monophonic tone synthesizer is operated from the same keyboard that controls the generation of tone from a polyphonic tone generation system. The highest frequency note is assigned to the monophonic tone synthesizer and all other actuated keyboard switches are assigned to the polyphonic tone generation system. The detection of the highest note is initiated each time that a keyswitch changes from an unactuated to an actuated state. An alternative arrangement is to assign the lowest frequency note to the monophonic tone synthesizer.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument in which a number of tone generators are assigned to actuated keyswitches in which a flute chorus of similar tones at preselected pitch footages are generated by implementing a discrete Fourier transform employing a selected sequence of harmonic coefficients. Two stored harmonic coefficients suffice to generate a tibia type flute chorus. A harmonic sequence select logic in cooperation with signals derived from actuated tone switches provide the selected sequences of harmonic coefficients.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument in which a number of tone generators are assigned to actuated keyswitches in which provisios are incorporated for simultaneously generating a combination of tones. Tones in the first family are generated with a maximum of Q harmonics by implementing a discrete Fourier transform employing stored sets of harmonic coefficients. Tones in the second family are obtained by operations on a frequency number and have a maximum of 2 Q harmonics. The second family of tones are generated in a manner that inherently provides ample noise reduction.

A touch responsive keyboard musical instrument is provided with an array of keyboard switches arranged in octave groups and connected in parallel octaves. A motion transducer is attached to each keyswitch so that a transducer signal is generated corresponding to the motion used to actuate the keyswitches. The keyswitches are sequentially scanned until an actuated keyswitch is detected. At this time the scanning is interrupted until the corresponding transducer signal has reached its peak value. The peak value is used to vary a tonal effect such as a frequency modulation or an ADSR envelope modulation of a tone generator assigned to the actuated keyswitch. The keyswitch scanning is resumed when the peak value of the transducer signal has been measured.

In a musical instrument having one or more tone generators in which a plurality of data words corresponding to the amplitudes of a corresponding number of evenly spaced points defining the waveform of one cycle of a musical signal are transferred sequentially from a note register to a digital-to-analog converter in repetitive cycles at a rate proportional to the pitch of the tone being generated, apparatus is provided for producing tones having independent time-varying harmonic components. A recursive algorithm is implemented which approximates prespecified harmonic-time curves by piecewise segments of exponential functions. Only a small number of stored curve parameters are required to generate the harmonic-time scale factor for a set of harmonic coefficients.

In an electronic musical instrument apparatus is provided for generating musical sounds having a fundamental frequency which tracks the fundamental frequency of a time varying external control signal. A matched filter is used to generate frequency control signals which are determined by a closeness criterion between the external control signal and an internally generated test signal. Provision is made for offsetting the generated musical sounds for a preselected musical interval from the fundamental frequency of the external control signal.

In an electrical tone generator apparatus is provided for automatically selecting one of a library of chord types which is closest to a chord fingered on a fretted string instrument. The closest decision is made by processing the fingered fret input data by a set of matched filters each of which corresponds to a member of the library of chord types. The chord type decision is made to correspond to the matched filter producing the maximum output response. The selection between chord types yielding equal responses is resolved by priority logic based upon the frequency of chord usage. A root note is chosen for each chord type. Note keying data is generated from the selected chord types which is transposed to the correct musical pitches in response to the chosen root note. The note keying data is grated by an automatic rhythm generator and the output is used to actuate electronic musical tone generators.
