    摘要: An improved sealable connector has a geometry which effects reliable sealing upon assembly. The connector is useful, for example, for connecting a pressure sensor to a fuel pump accumulator in a fuel injection system. The connector includes a male member, a female member, and an annular seal disc which compressibly seats between the male and female members. The male member has a tip with a flat annulus at an innermost radius surrounding a fluid-delivery bore. A frustoconical section of the tip extends radially outwardly from the annulus, sloping away from the plane of the annulus at about 5.degree.-15.degree., for example. The female member has a cavity shaped to receive the male member, the cavity having a bottom defined by a flat annular seat surrounding another fluid-delivery bore. The seal disc is compressed between the flat seat of the female cavity and the planar/frustoconical tip of the male member. Axial compressive loads on the disc are concentrated under the planar annulus such that the disc has a radially-inward zone of plastic compression adjacent to the fluid-carrying bore, this plastic compression zone being radially-outwardly surrounded by an elastic compression zone.

    摘要: A motor vehicle steering column including a first mast jacket element mounted on a body of the vehicle, a second mast jacket element telescoped into a cylindrical passage in the first element, and a split bushing between the first and second elements. The bushing has a lip on an outside surface thereof which seats against the passage in the first mast jacket element to define a closed circumferential chamber around the bushing interrupted by the split in the latter. A plastic shim is molded in place in the closed circumferential chamber by injecting liquid plastic under pressure through a port in the first mast jacket element. Liquid plastic fills the closed circumferential chamber and clamps an inside surface of the bushing against an outer surface of the second mast jacket element to eliminate lash. Shrinkage of the plastic in the closed circumferential chamber reduces the contact pressure between the bushing and the second mast jacket element to minimize frictional drag.

    摘要: A tool for opening and re-sealing containers is provided. The tool includes a body having a first end and a second end. The tool also includes a hook at the first end to engage holes in tabs of a first container to release a lid of the container. The tool further includes a splayed member at the second end having a gap to engage and re-seal the lid onto the container, a cut block to provide a fulcrum on which to leverage the body, and a leverage block to provide a fulcrum on which to leverage the body. The tool also includes a blade coupled to the body to operate in concert with the cut block to cut a lid of a second container to create tabs on the lid and a pry member mounted on the body configured to operate in concert with the leverage block to pry the tabs of the second container lids to release the lid of the second container.

    摘要: A position sensor is disclosed having a transducer formed by a Hall-effect device and permanent magnet secured within a housing on either side of a low permeability gap. A target secured to an active member, such as an EGR valve plunger moves within the gap. The target has a flux modulating property that varies with position along a direction of travel. In one embodiment, the reluctance of the target varies with position. Variable reluctance is achieved in some embodiments by varying the cross section of the target with position. In some embodiments, a second target having substantially constant reluctance secures to the active member and moves within a gap defined by a second transducer. The output of the second transducer is used to normalize the output of the first transducer and compensate for anomalies such as drift and movement other than in the direction of travel of the active member.
