    Abstract: In a gas spring apparatus according to the present invention, a cylinder assembly comprises a cylinder housing and a rod fitted therein for axial reciprocation. An oil chamber and a gas chamber are defined inside the cylinder assembly, and the capacity of the gas chamber changes as the cylinder housing and rod reciprocate relatively to each other. A damping force generating mechanism is provided in the cylinder assembly. A flexible bladder includes a body made of elastomer and a gas-barrier film. The film is formed on the surface of the elastomer body. The bladder divides the oil and gas chambers completely. Thus, when the rod reciprocates in the axial direction, relatively to the cylinder, the bladder inflates and deflates. The gas spring apparatus is used for a suspension system of an automobile.

    Abstract: In a controller of a tape drive, when a command processor receives a command for moving to the end of data (“EOD”) or the like, an operation signal output unit suspends the moving of a tape and a cartridge memory (“CM”) input/output unit stores therein a state of the tape in which the moving has been omitted. Then, when the command processor receives a command for writing data in this state, the CM input/output unit writes the data to a cartridge memory. Subsequently, for example, when a head passes a proper position at which the data should be actually written to the tape, the CM input/output unit reads the data from the cartridge memory, and the channel input/output unit writes the data to the tape at the proper position.

    Abstract: An article essentially consisting of one or more of Ti-Al intermetallic compounds is fabricated so as to have a volume ratio of voids of 0.2 to 3.5% and a maximum size of voids less than 50 .mu.m, by preparing a mixture of materials selected from a group consisting of Ti, Ti alloys, Al, Al alloys, and Ti-Al compounds, having a composition suitable for forming a desired Ti-Al intermetallic compound, and heating the mixture so that the mixture may be sintered. Typically, the temperature and pressure for the heating or sintering process, and the particle size of the material are appropriately selected so that a desired porosity and a desired range of void sizes may be obtained. The mechanical strength of the article according to the present invention is not only improved (as compared to the conventional Ti-Al intermetallic compounds) but is highly predictable, or, in other words, highly reliable. The fabrication costs can be reduced because the fabrication process involves only relatively low temperatures when simultaneously pressing and heating the article being formed. Furthermore, during the process of fabrication, such an article may have a highly favorable workability (as compared to the prior art) so that a final shape can be given to the article without involving any undue difficulty.

    Abstract: A suspension system according to the present invention comprises a cylinder assembly, which includes a cylinder and a rod fitted therein for axial reciprocation. An oil chamber containing oil and a gas chamber containing gas are defined inside the cylinder assembly. A damping-force generating mechanism is provided in the oil chamber, whereby a damping force is applied to the reciprocation of the rod. A bellows is contained in the cylinder assembly. The bellows includes an oil-resistant body made of an elastomer, and a gas-barrier film made of a material impermeable to gas and formed on the surface of the body. The oil and gas chambers are isolated completely from each other by the bellows.

    Abstract: In order to provide a heating mantle so composed that fixing and unfixing work can be carried out simply and easily and in addition a good thermal uniformity can be obtained, the heating mantle is fabricated by a method, by which sewing by means of a sewing machine is carried out on a sheet-shaped heat resistant and heat insulating core member, using a heating wire, which is a yarn of metal fine wires, for a lower yarn and a glass yarn for an upper yarn; a predetermined heating wire pattern is formed on a surface of the core member; and a layered body consisting of the core member with the heating wire and covering members made of glass cloth, which are laid on upperside and underside thereof, is enclosed by a sack-shaped cover member.By the heating mantle thus constructed winding around a piping is simple and easy and there is no risk that deviation of the heating wire takes place so that a good thermal uniformity with respect to the piping can be exhibited. Moreover, owing to the fact that the heating wire is used for the lower yarn for the sewing machine, it is possible to form easily the predetermined heating wire pattern.
