摘要: This invention is directed to advanced hemorrhage control wound dressings, and methods of using a producing same. The subject wound dressing is constructed from a non-mammalian material for control of severe bleeding. The wound dressing is formed of a biomaterial comprising chitosan for controlling severe bleeding. The kind of severe, life-threatening bleeding contemplated by this invention is typically of the type not capable of being stanched when a conventional gauze wound dressing is applied with conventional pressure to the subject wound. The wound dressing being capable of substantially stanching the flow of the severe life-threatening bleeding from the wound by adhering to the wound site, to seal the wound, to accelerate blood clot formation at the wound site, to reinforce clot information at the wound site and prevent bleed out from the wound site, and to substantially prohibit the flow of blood out of the wound site.

摘要: A myocardial revascularization device has a catheter suitable for use in a myocardial revascularization procedure, the catheter including an elongate body having a proximal end and a distal end, and tissue-ablating means housed at least partially within the catheter and capable of effectuating tissue ablation adjacent the distal end of the catheter. The device further has an optical reflectance fiber housed within the catheter and coupled to an optical reflectance system. The device is operative to transmit a reflectance signal in the optical reflectance fiber, the reflectance signal including either short optical pulses or low-coherence light. The optical reflectance system is operative to gauge tissue ablation, measure a thickness of tissue adjacent the catheter, and/or determine a position of the distal end relative to adjacent tissue using either of optical time-domain reflectance or optical coherence interferometry.

摘要: This invention relates to a method for producing an adherable biomaterial patch. The subject patch is capable of being joined onto a tissue substrate. The invention is also directed to the patch per se, and to a method for producing the adherable biomaterial patch which is joined onto a tissue substrate. A preferred patch can even function in a highly acidic environment. The method of the present invention comprises providing a biomaterial patch consisting essentially of elastin or an elastin-based biomaterial having at least one outer surface. Next, at least one outer surface of the biomaterial patch is treated with a selected cyanoacrylate adhesive to produce a adherable biomaterial patch.

摘要: A liquid core laser optical scope for illuminating, viewing, and delivering laser energy to a site in a lumen of an animal or human body which includes a flexible tube for insertion into the lumen, a conduit housed within the tube, a fluid source for coupling a flow of light transmissive liquid into the conduit, a light source for transmitting visible light through the tube to illuminate the site, an optical fiber bundle having an optical receiving end disposed at the distal end of the optical scope for imaging the illuminated site and transmitting a visible image thereof through the optical scope to an external viewing port, and a fluid core light guide for transmitting laser energy from an energy source into the conduit where the conduit has a sidewall capable of internally reflecting light into the liquid in the conduit so that the liquid waveguides the laser energy through the conduit to the site. The fluid core light guide serves not only to couple laser energy to the site in the lumen but to transmit illumination light to the site and reflected images back to the viewing port.
