    Abstract: The present invention provides a cationic electrocoating composition which cures at the preferred curing temperature range and provides superior curing properties and cured film properties. The cationic electrocoating composition of the present invention comprises a resinous component and an aqueous medium, wherein the resinous component is composed of one or more polymers and has as a whole an active hydrogen containing group, a cationic group and a substituted group and at least one of the polymers comprises a vinyl polymer which has 5 to 1,000 substituted acylamide groups.

    Abstract: Cathodic electrodeposition paints are rendered hardly susceptible to oil droplet-induced craters by incorporating an amine-modified acrylic copolymer of t-butyl (meth)acrylate with a hydroxyl group-containing monomer and an oxirane ring-containing monomer in the form of an aqueous emulsion. The amine-modified acrylic copolymer may be an adduct with a half blocked organic diisocyanate. The paint gives a cured film substantially free from oil droplet-induced craters and having a good adhesion to an overcoating and a good surface smoothness.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a micro gel particle having an anionic charge for which it is electrodepositable by itself. The present invention provides a process for preparing an anionic micro gel particle dispersion comprising:emulsifying in an aqueous medium a resin composition comprising(A) 100 parts by weight of an anionic film-forming aqueous resin, and(B) 10 to 250 parts by weight of a thermosetting crosslinking agent which is self-crosslinked or crosslinked with said aqueous resin (A) in terms of condensation or addition reaction excepting the combination of an acrylic resin and an alcoxylated methylol melamine; parts by weight being based on the solid content of the resin composition, andheating the resultant emulsion to above a crosslinkable temperature of said crosslinking agent (B).

    Abstract: A cathodic electrodeposition paint containing as a binder resin an amine-epoxy resin adduct and a blocked polyisocyanate crosslinker is disclosed. The binder resin and the crosslinker are emulsified in an aqueous medium containing a neutralizing agent with the aid of amine adduct of a monoepoxide compound having a hydrophobic group or block. Not only the amine-monoepoxide adduct functions as a surfactant but also it is deposited electrically and then cured with the crosslinker integrally with the binder resin.
