摘要: An indicating instrument for a vehicle has a display board, a light modulation member disposed to cover a surface of the display board. An illumination intensity of the display board is detected by a light detecting member and a control unit applies to a dc pulse voltage to the light modulation member, to thereby control a light transmissivity of the light modulation member according to the illumination intensity. When the illumination intensity is higher than a predetermined level, the voltage is applied in one direction so that the light modulation member changes from a colorless condition to a colored condition to restrict an external light from reflecting on the display board. When the illumination intensity is lower than a predetermined level, the voltage is applied in a reverse direction so that the light modulation member is transferred from the colored condition to the colorless condition to maintain the visibility of the display board.

摘要: A coherent beam is converted into a light flux having an expanded width at a predetermined position closer to a photosensitive element. Part of the expanded light flux is irradiated directly on the photosensitive element as a reference beam. The remainder of the expanded light flux is diffused, and its optical direction is changed. Thus, the remainder of the expanded light flux not irradiated directly to the photosensitive element is converted into a scattered beam advancing as an object beam toward the photosensitive element. Interference fringes are formed on the photosensitive element by using the reference beam and the object beam.

摘要: A light-emitting diode module is mounted on an instrument panel of an automotive vehicle for illuminating a scale plate of the instrument panel. The module is composed of a light-emitting diode and a holder for supporting the diode thereon. The holder includes a housing made of molded resin and conductor plates embedded in the housing. The light-emitting diode is mounted in a depressed portion formed in the housing, and the holder is mounted on a circuit board to supply electric power to the light-emitting diode through the conductor plates embedded in the housing. A front surface of the housing and a front surface of the light-emitting diode are made flush with each other so that a flat surface made by both front surfaces is positioned close to a rear surface of the scale plate. Light emitted from the module is efficiently utilized for illuminating the scale plate by positioning the module at a right position with respect to the light-conducting plate.

摘要: A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a light source, a light source drive circuit for switching the light source on and off, a heat release member for releasing heat generated by at least one of the light source drive circuit and the light source, and a heat transport member for transporting the heat to the heat release member. The light source drive circuit is connected to the heat release member through the heat transport member. The heat transport member has high heat conductivity so that a large part of the heat can be transferred to the heat release member through the heat transport member for a short time. Thus, the heat transport member prevents the heat from affecting components disposed near the light source drive circuit or the light source.

摘要: A head-up display includes a projector which projects an image light and a hologram lens which diffracts and reflects the projected image and form a virtual image located ahead of a windshield. The hologram lens has a vertical diffraction characteristic which is equivalent to a hyperbolic or parabolic-curve mirror along a line formed by the intersection of the hologram lens and a vertical plane which includes an axis of the image light and a horizontal diffraction characteristic which is equivalent to a parabolic or elliptic curve mirror along a line which is formed by the intersection of the hologram lens and a horizontal plane which includes the axis of the image light. When the hologram is directly attached on a curved windshield which has a focal length fs (in case it is a mirror), the focal length fo of the hologram and the former focal length fs has the following relationship; 1/fo=1/fh+1/fs, where fh is a focal point when the hologram is flat.

摘要: A LCD apparatus includes a liquid crystal panel, a circuit board having a mounting surface and circuit elements mounted on the mounting surface to constitute a drive circuit for driving the LCD apparatus, and a case for holding the liquid crystal panel and the circuit board. The circuit board is positioned approximately in a vertical direction during normal use of the LCD apparatus. The circuit elements include a first element having a first projecting length from the mounting surface and a second element having a second projecting length from the mounting surface. The first projecting length is greater than a projecting length of any other element of the circuit elements. The second projecting length is slightly smaller than the first projecting length. The first and the second elements are arranged on the mounting surface approximately in a line in the vertical direction.

摘要: An illuminating device includes a light source body and a lens array. The light source body includes a plurality of light sources. The lens array includes an opposed surface, a reverse surface, a plurality of lenses, a recess, and a projection. The plurality of lenses corresponds respectively to the plurality of light sources. The plurality of lenses includes a first lens and a second lens, which is located adjacent to the first lens. The recess is formed at an end portion of the first lens adjacent to the second lens. The projection is formed at an end portion of the second lens adjacent to the first lens. The projection is coupled with the recess, so that at least a part of a boundary line between the first lens and the second lens is formed in a concave-convex shape as a result of a combination of the recess and the projection.
