    摘要: A two-step training method for the estimation filter in the echo cancellation (EC) path of the analog front-end (AFE) circuit for a modem, such as an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) modem. During the first step, the coefficients of a filter that is preferably equivalent to the combination of the EC path and the receive (RX) path in the AFE circuit are determined with the EC estimation filter held fixed and the transmit (TX) path in the AFE circuit disabled. During the second step, the TX path is enabled and the coefficients of the EC estimation filter are determined using the path equivalent filter generated during the first step. The two-step training method takes into account variations in the operating characteristics of components in the various processing paths in the AFE circuit to converge on satisfactory coefficients for the EC estimation filter within an acceptable number of training symbols.

    摘要: A technique is provided for automatic frequency offset correction in a wireless communication system. After demodulating and decoding a received signal in a receiver, channel estimation is also performed. The technique further includes re-encoding and re-modulating the decoded and demodulated signal with a coding and modulation scheme different from the received signal. The signal is reconstructed signal on the basis of the re-encoded and re-modulated signal and estimated channel characteristics. A frequency error is estimated based on the reconstructed signal and the original received signal. A threshold for a comparator is determined on the basis of the estimated offset amount determined by the comparison threshold and the estimated frequency offset.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for iterative carrier frequency estimation of a base station by a mobile station in a wireless communication system is disclosed. Upon detecting a frequency correction burst ("FCB") signal from the wireless transmission of the base station, the mobile station first buffers the FCB signal and then filters the buffered signal with a bandpass filter to generate a first set of filtered data. After filtering, the first filtered data is again filtered with an auto-regressive filter to generate a corresponding set of second filtered data. With the second filtered data, iterative pole estimation of the AR filter and filtering by the AR filter is made for a predetermined set of iterations to generate a converged pole estimate, which can then be used to derive the carrier frequency of the base station. Also, the mobile station may be further adapted to receive and buffer more than one FCB signals to allow averaging of the derived carrier frequencies based on different pole estimates such that a reliable and accurate carrier frequency is obtained.
