This in invention relates to methods for the nucleic acid amplification of multiple variants (strains) of any pathogen present in a sample, and preferably in a sample from a pathogen infected individual. In preferred embodiments, the pathogen is a retrovirus, such as HIV. The amplified pathogen nucleic acid can be used to identify the pathogen variants present in a sample, to quantitate the pathogen present in a sample, and as a nucleic acid vaccine, or in the preparation of antigen presenting cell vaccines. Nucleic acids produced by the methods of the invention or the proteins encoded thereby can be used to transfect/load antigen presenting cells. The loaded antigen presenting cells can then be used as a vaccine for the treatment of pathogen infection. In another embodiment, nucleic acids produced by the methods of the invention can be used directly as nucleic acid vaccines without prior loading into antigen presenting cells.

The system includes at least one removable memory unit positioned in the downhole tool, at least one surface computer for receiving data from the at least one memory unit and a communication link for transmitting data from the memory unit to the surface computer. The communication link may be a direct, hard-wired, wireless or optical link.

A wireless local area network that carries mixed traffic of voice and data communications may be provided. The wireless local area network may include an access point and a plurality of remote terminals that are associated with the access point. The access point may be operably coupled to a wireline network. The access point may receive voice and other communications packets from the remote terminals and the wireline network. Some of the packets may be for transmission to the remote terminals. The access point manages which packets to transmit and when to transmit packets. The access point may manage traffic to maintain a fair distribution of packets and to give priority to voice communications over other communications.

A package of local files are maintained in a first local computing device and a descriptive record of the local files is maintained in a second local computing device. A directory-modified-date parameter within the first local computing device and a file-modified-date parameter in the second local computing device, but updated in accordance with a local clock from the first local computing device, are used to maintain the descriptive record in the second local computing device synchronized with changes to the local files in the first local computing device. Copies of the descriptive record and package of local files are maintained in a remote computing system. A first package-modified-date, PMD, parameter in the second local computing device and a second PMD parameter in the remote computing system are used to maintain the copies in the remote computing system synchronized with those in first and second local computing devices.

A system and method of capturing solar energy, and related method of manufacturing, are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the system includes a first lens array having a plurality of lenses, and a first waveguide component adjacent to the lens array, where the waveguide component receives light, and where the waveguide component includes an array of prism/mirrored facets arranged along at least one surface of the waveguide component. The system further includes at least one photovoltaic cell positioned so as to receive at least a portion of the light that is directed out of the waveguide. A least some of the light passing into the waveguide component is restricted from leaving the waveguide component upon being reflected by at least one of the prism/mirrored facets, hereby the at least some light restricted from leaving the waveguide component is directed by the waveguide toward the at least one photovoltaic cell.
