Abstract:
The invention pertains to a method for the determination of basophil activation induced by a test substance by flow cytometric measurement of the changes of the mean or median fluorescence intensities (WI) of the basophilic FcεRI receptor present on the cell surface of basophils (MFI-FcεRI) and/or the IgE antibodies bound to the FcεRI receptor (MFI-IgE), and the CD63 antigen exposed on the cell surface of basophils after their activation (MFI-CD63), by means of a mixture of anti-CD63, anti-FcεRI or anti-IgE, and anti-CCR3 antibodies each labelled with a distinct fluorophore, of which at least one antibody acts as a basophil selection marker and at least two antibodies act as basophil activation markers, and bringing the mean fluorescence intensities of the activation markers in correlation to obtain an Activation Index. These methods combining the measurement of an early (such as IgE, FcεRI or CD203c) and a late basophil activation marker (such as CD63), respectively, provide a markedly improved clinical sensitivity in allergy diagnosis over existing methods which consider only one activation marker, such as CD203c or CD63, expressed in percentage of basophil activation. It is also an aspect of the present invention to provide an ex-vivo allergy provocation test comprising the above-mentioned flow cytometric measurement and analysis of the results as well as a test kit for carrying out the test in-vitro.

Repair plug for sealing heat exchanger tubes, including a closure plug part being tightly connectable to a heat exchanger tube and having an end for insertion into the heat exchanger tube, and a polisher plug part disposed on the insertion end of the closure plug part axially in front of the insertion end in insertion direction thereof forming a single structural unit with the closure plug part, the polisher plug part remaining in the sealed heat exchanger tube after completing the tight connection.
Abstract:
An installation for decontaminating a radioactively contaminated surface with a dry mechanical abrasive includes an extractor for suction extraction of an extraction gas together with an abrasive/dust mixture produced during blasting. A separator separates the abrasive/dust mixture aspirated by the extractor into a dust fraction and a re-usable abrasive fraction. A storage bin is connected between the extractor and the separator. The storage bin includes a filter device having a filter for filtering the extraction gas flowing through the storage bin to the extractor, and a blowoff line to be connected to the filter device for blowing off the filter.
Abstract:
Method for electropolishing the inner surface of an U-shaped heat exchanger tube with an electrode connected to a negative pole of a d-c voltage source, the electrode being slidable into the heat exchanger tube and withdrawable out of the tube by a pulling member, and with a pump connected to an electrolyte tank for feeding electrolyte into the heat exchanger tube, which comprises inserting into two chambers, respectively, formed in a bottom hemispherical shell of a heat exchanger, respective manipulators formed with jibs for positioning tube probes by remote control into end openings of U-shaped heat exchanger tubes disposed in the heat exchanger and opening into the chambers; pressing by the manipulators respective adapters, which are connected to hose connectors and are carried at respective free ends of the manipulator jibs, to the end openings of the heat exchanger tubes through the intermediary of respective seals so as to align in each of the chambers the end opening of one of the U-shaped heat exchanger tubes with respective hoses connected thereto by the hose connectors; inserting an electrode by a thrust cable through one of the hoses and into the respective heat exchanger tube up to a given location therein; pumping electrolyte through one of the hoses into the respective heat exchanger tube and conducting it from the other hose into a collecting tray; electrically energizing the electrode and withdrawing it slowly from the respective heat exchanger tube while the electrode remains energized; and thereafter removing the electrolyte from the respective heat exchanger tube.
