Abstract:
A fault tolerant software environment, in which various program components (e.g., portions of computer programs, applications, etc) are objectized into entities represented by “codons.” This allows for improper syntax to occur, enabling, for example, combinatorial operations such as genetic programming. The present invention also contemplates such features as the ability to probabilistically execute individual codons, to switch between treating information as executable code or as data (or passing over it), provides that the individual codons can be tagged so that additional information can be associated with them, and provides for tagging of the stack.
Abstract:
An orthopedic plate has a first end including a locking screw hole that receives a locking screw and spaced from that hole is a compression housing that extends from the bone-facing side of the plate and which receives a compression screw that forms an angle of from about 10° to about 70° with a longitudinal axis of the plate. In a further embodiment, the plate also includes a second end with a chamfer for insertion of the plate into bone, and in a still further embodiment, the plate is an MTP plate.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides for a method of determining if a sputum sample contains dysplastic or carcinomic cells by obtaining a sputum sample containing cells. The sputum sample is labeled with TCPP to stain cells suspected to be dysplastic or carcinomic. The labeled sputum sample is excited with an excitation wavelength of light of about 475 nm+/−30 nm and emission at about 560 nm+/−30 nm is detected from cells identified to be macrophages. An imager focuses on the plasma membrane of one or more cells suspected to be dysplastic or carcinomic and emission at about 655 nm+/−30 nm, if present, is detected for TCPP labeled cells of the sputum sample after focusing on the plasma membrane of the cells of the sputum sample. Photon flux for each pixel of a sensor is measured to obtain a value for the imaged cell. The measured value is scored to determine if a cell is cancerous or dysplastic.
Abstract:
The present invention is a MTP plate that has a first embodiment with a profile having bilateral mirror symmetry of the about a transverse plane with an angle of about 5° for dorsiflexion and an angle of about 10° for valgus. Both ends of the plate include a central arm having a slot for compression and two offset arms having offset ears with locking screw holes that provide for multiplanar compressive fixation. The bone contacting surface of the plate is radiused to allow the plate to be in snug contact with the bone. In a second embodiment of the plate for revision surgery, the proximal end of the plate includes a metatarsal extension and the plate has a central locking hole for securing bone graft.
Abstract:
An apparatus for supporting the journal of a mill roll in a journal box carrying a bearing assembly in which the journal is disposed. The bearing assembly comprises a hydrostatic bearing interacting with a bearing sleeve which perform the dual function of retaining an arrangement of roller bearings during mill operation, and provide radial support for the roll during a resurfacing operation.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a solid-state light source based on a light emitting diode (LED) array driven by a constant current power source with an active feedback control. This system can be implemented for broad frequency ranges or for narrow band frequencies depending on the characteristics of the LEDs chosen to populate the array and the geometry of the array. The invention can be used as an excitation light source for fluorescent microscopy and flow cytometry applications as an efficient and stable alternative to existing light sources such as broadband mercury vapor bulbs and plasma-based light sources. Benefits of the current invention include: durability; stability; reduced operating expenses; reduced variance of output; and increased accuracy of frequency and amplitude. This system will provide benefits as the excitation mechanism in fluorescent identification and measurement systems such as microscopy and flow cytometry.
