摘要： A water fountain for a dampening unit of an offset rotary printing machine includes spaced front rear and side walls and a bottom. A pair of spaced inlet and outlet dams each include drainage holes and overflow apertures. Dampening fluid is fed to the fountain through an infeed pipe and unused fluid exits the fountain through a drainage tube. This drainage tube is in fluid communication with, but is separate from a funnel carried in an open end of a dampening fluid recirculation pipe. The water fountain is supported between side frames of the press. Since neither dampening fluid inlet line nor the dampening fluid recirculation pipe are connected to the fountain, it can be quickly and easily removed from the dampening unit for cleaning or service.

摘要： An ink fountain for a printing machine is disclosed. A plurality of ink metering elements are placed side by side in a longitudinal gap in the bottom surface of an ink fountain with the gap being parallel to the axis of rotation of the ink roller. Each ink metering element includes an ink guiding surface which terminates in an ink metering extension that is adjustably spaced from the surface of the ink roller. Each of the ink metering elements is rigidly secured to a pivotable arm which extends through an opening in the ink fountain in a direction away from the inner bottom surface of the fountain. Pivoting of the arms causes the ink metering elements to pivot about a pivot line defined by the intersection of the inner bottom surface of the fountain bottom and a first edge of the longitudinal gap. Movement of the ink metering elements changes the space between the fountain roller and the ink metering extension thereby controlling the amount of ink carried out of the fountain by the ink fountain roller.

摘要： A bearing arrangement for an ink fountain in a rotary printing machine is disclosed. An ink fountain roller is carried in bearings in the side frames of the printing machine. Ball bearings are secured to support journals of the roller interiorly of the side frames and carry supporting rings which have grooved peripheral surfaces. An ink fountain is resiliently pivotably carried by the side frames and is secured to the roller journals. Securement is accomplished by flexible wire rope or the like which is secured at one end to the ink fountain, passes around the periphery of the supporting rings carried by the roller journals and is held by an over-center latch on the ink fountain. Actuation of the latch secures the ink fountain to the roller. The bearing arrangement in accordance with the present invention reduces ink fountain roller deflection and gives more uniform ink application.

摘要： The accurate registering and mounting of flexible printing plates on a forme cylinder is accomplished by mounting a printing plate to be brought into proper registration on a support which is adjustable in three degrees of freedom and by then superimposing the supported printing plate with a properly registered transparent proof. The plate is brought into proper registration by adjustment of the support using the proof as a reference. The now registered plate is carried by the support to a position where it can be applied to the forme cylinder. A computer may be used to aid in effecting proper register of the plate with reference to the transparent proof.

Each of these sheet guide elements is carried by a sleeve which is concentric about a hollow profile body that carries a rotatable, helically fluted shaft.
