Abstract: A fluid distribution device, for applying a fluid onto a transfer roller (2), comprises an elongated chamber (10), at least one inlet (31) for letting a fluid into the chamber (10), a longitudinal opening extending in the axial direction and adapted to face a transfer roller (2) so as to allow fluid to exit the chamber and contact the transfer roller, and at least one wiper blade (11) extending along at least a portion of the longitudinal opening. The chamber comprises, at each of the two axial ends of the chamber, a wall (15) separating the chamber (10) from a cavity (16), wherein the wall (15) has a wall surface (15A) arranged to face the transfer roller (2) when the device is in use, the wall (15) being dimensioned so that the wall surface (15A) will be distanced from the transfer roller when the device is in use, so as to allow fluid to be present in a gap (20) between the wall surface (15A) and the transfer roller.

Abstract: In one example in accordance with the present disclosure, a printing fluid container for a printing system is described. The printing fluid container includes a container body for holding printing fluid, a collar connected to the container body, and a cap removably engaging the collar. The collar has a plurality of collar teeth extending peripherally around the collar. The cap has a plurality of cap teeth extending peripherally around the cap. The cap teeth are configured for interfitment with the collar teeth such that rotation of the cap about the longitudinal axis in a first rotational direction effects cam-actuated removal of the cap from the collar.

Abstract: The present invention concerns an inking for a flexographic or a rotogravure press. The inking system uses a very small amount of ink coupled with an ink source made of two tanks with two different inks. Thanks to feedback given by measuring the output directly on the printed support, the system mixes the ink in the optimal proportions to ensure an optimal printing quality at any time. It can compensate any effect due to environmental changes like the humidity or the temperature. This system, coupled with a seven colours press allows for the replacement of spot colours in most cases thereby saving times and costs.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the thickness of fountain solution (FS) in a Digital Architecture for Lithographic Ink (DALI) printing system by transferring the FS to an optical roller with the properties of a lens and measuring the resulting effect on the refraction of an image captured through the lens. The optical roller may comprise a clear or glass cylinder forming a Fresnel lens cylinder having an engineered surface of known surface roughness and wherein the roller is placed adjacent the image member blanket. A heat source is used to evaporate the FS from the blanket for transfer to the optical roller where the FS wets the roller surface to different degrees based on the FS thickness relative to Fresnel ridge depth. Changes to the optical refraction through the lens varies with the FS thickness. An image sensor (e.g., a CCD camera or image analysis system) evaluates the image through the optical roller for FS thickness determination.

Abstract: Examples of the preferred embodiments use printed content (e.g., halftones, difference in grayscale or darkness) to determine thickness of fountain solution applied by a fountain solution applicator on an imaging member surface and/or determine image forming device real-time image forming modifications for subsequent printings. For example, in real-time during the printing of a print job, a sensor may measure halftones or grayscale differences between printed content and non-printed content of a current printing on print substrate. Based on this measurement of printed content output from the image forming device, the image forming device may adjust image forming (e.g., fountain solution deposition flow rate, imaging member rotation speed) to reach or maintain a preferred fountain solution thickness on the imaging member surface for subsequent (e.g., next) printings of the print job.

Abstract: A refillable ink box proofed against the formation of airlocks during filling includes an ink storage chamber, a seat, and an insertion tube. The box includes a bottom plate, and first and second side walls. The bottom plate and first and second side walls form the ink storage chamber. The seat protrudes to the exterior and carries insertion tube, ink outlet, and air guiding port. The insertion tube defines the ink inlet and also an air vent. The ink inlet communicates with the ink outlet port, the ink outlet communicates with the ink storage chamber. The air guiding port equalizes gas pressure with outside atmosphere and is positioned above the ink outlet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a sealing element for an ink chamber of a rotary printing press, wherein the sealing element has a sealing surface that rests against a roller body during operation of the rotary printing press. In order to reduce wear on the sealing element, the sealing surface has at least one flow outlet opening, at which an overpressure of a fluid may be built up during operation of the rotary printing press, in such a way that the fluid between the sealing surface and roller body forms a sealing flow film.
