    摘要: An improved end-seal carrier assembly for supporting a seal in a seal-type continuous dampener. The seal is supported by a backing plate and pressed against the ends of the dampener's rollers. A carrier shaft is fixedly mounted to the backing plate. A shaft housing is mounted to the sideframe and has a hole extending longitudinally there through into which the shaft is mounted so to rotationally and longitudinally translate with respect to the sideframe. A coil spring is wound about a portion of the carrier shaft and has a first spring end operatively engaging the backing plate and a second spring end operatively engaging the shaft housing. The coil spring is configured to induce both a compressive and torsional bias between the backing plate and the sideframe. The shaft housing is rotatable for winding the coil spring and thereby establishing the torsional bias.

    摘要: The improvements consist in supplying the wetting system with a water based solution including a determined additive. This solution is subjected, through a mechanism forming a part of this invention, to a process of agitation by which it adsorbs a high oxygen content. As a result of these improvements, the solution which wets the aluminium plate, from which the printing is done, acquires a high free oxygen content, increasing the water-ink interface and improving the quality of the printing.

    摘要: To permit elimination of dampening rollers or an entire dampener in a lithographic, preferably offset printing machine, the printing form is formed as a cylindrical sleeve or jacket (3) fitted over a core (2), in which the cylindrical sleeve or jacket is formed with a plurality of interconnected pores (5), essentially uniformly distributed over the surface (4) and forming, within the sleeve or jacket, a connected pore fluid transfer network. Dampening fluid is then applied to the interior of the sleeve or jacket, for example from a chamber (6) between the cylindrical core (2) and the inner surface of the sleeve or jacket. The outer surface (4) can be imaged with oleophilic substances, for example by a thermal transfer process. To remove the images, for re-use of the printing form without removal from a printing machine, hot gases for example steam can be applied to the interior of the sleeve or jacket, so that the oleophilic substances at the outside will loosen for easy removal, or spall off.

    摘要: A dampening unit for an offset printing machine, includes a roller pair consisting of a metering roller, and a dampening form roller for applying dampening medium to a plate cylinder of the printing machine, the metering roller and the form roller being in mutually pressing engagement at a first contact zone along respective axially parallel lines on respective casings of the roller pair, a gear drive for driving the roller pair with circumferential speeds of the metering roller and the form roller substantially in a downward direction in vicinity of the contact zone, and means defining a storage space for dampening medium located above the contact zone and including surfaces of the casings of the roller pair and sealing elements located at respective ends of the roller pair, only the metering roller of the roller pair being driven by a gear meshing with a drive gear of the gear drive, the form roller being in driven engagement via friction contact at the first contact zone in a first position of the form roller wherein the form roller is lifted away from the plate cylinder, and being in driven engagement via friction contact both at the first contact zone and at a second contact zone between the form roller and the plate cylinder in a second position of the form roller wherein the form roller is in engagement with the plate cylinder, the metering roller being drivable at a circumferential speed increased to such an extent over that of the plate cylinder to compensate for braking moments applied to the form roller so that the form roller rotates in the second position thereof with a circumferential speed slower by an order of magnitude of 0.5% to 2% than the circumferential speed of the plate cylinder.

    摘要: In an elongated fountain pan, for an elongated press dampening roll, having a liquid inlet, the improvement comprising, providing the liquid inlet in the form of an elongated liquid inlet means extending lengthwise of the pan and accordingly lengthwise of the roll, the inlet means having a plurality of liquid outlet apertures therein and spaced therealong and the inlet means having liquid supply line means connected thereto and in such manner liquid exiting from the supply line means into the inlet means subsequently exits via apertures adjacent the ends of the inlet means generally simultaneously whereby to maintain, during operation of the press, a uniform temperature of the liquid in the pan as measured along the length of the roll. Also disclosed, is a method of maintaining a uniform temperature throughout the liquid in the fountain pan of a printing press and a method of cleaning a fountain solution of a printing press.
