Abstract:
A layered adhesive construction comprising a backing layer and a first and second layer of hydrocolloid adhesive, where the first and second layer of hydrocolloid adhesive have different composition, and the second layer of hydrocolloid adhesive is at least partly interposed between the first layer of hydrocolloid adhesive and the backing layer, the first and second adhesive layers consisting of a continuous phase and a discontinuous phase where the discontinuous phase of the first adhesive layer comprises a hydrocolloids providing a higher moisture absorption capacity and higher initial rate of absorption to the adhesive layer than the hydrocolloids in the discontinuous phase of the second adhesive layer, and the discontinuous phase of second layer of adhesive comprises hydrocolloids providing a higher cohesion following moisture absorption to the adhesive compared to the hydrocolloid in the discontinuous phase of the first adhesive layer.

The wafer comprises a central portion and a peripheral portion, and it comprises a proximal section located on the proximal side of the central portion and a distal section visually arranged on the distal side of peripheral portion, wherein the distal section changes colour when the proximal section is exposed to fluid.
Abstract:
An ostomy appliance body side member or an ostomy appliance comprising an adhesive wafer having a first adhesive surface for securing the appliance to the user's skin, said wafer having a second surface being covered with a carrier sheet which wafer has a hole for receiving a stoma wherein a part of the adhesive wafer surrounding the stoma shows balanced plastic and elastic properties allowing an adaptation of the size of the hole of the ostomy appliance to a stoma by enlarging the hole for accommodating the stoma by rolling up the inner rim thereof forming a torus and wherein a part of the second surface of the wafer surrounding the hole shows surface properties compatible with the first adhesive surface of the adhesive wafer locking the torus to the second surface in its rolled position by the contact between the second surface and the first adhesive surface enables a simple, safe and reliable customisation of the hole of a body side member without the use of tools and at the same time provides means for reducing the risk of causing injury to or constriction of the stoma.
Abstract:
A collecting bag including a bag member formed by two film blanks with joined edges, and a discharge portion having a discharge opening that is closed by a closure device. The discharge portion has a discharge position, in which the bag is open, and a position of use, in which the bag is closed. At least one open receptacle formed in the bag member accommodates the discharge portion when it is in the position of use of the bag. The open receptacle formed in the bag member has a basis portion in which the film blanks are undetachably connected to each other, and may further include a retaining element in the form of a strip having at least one engagement section for releasable engagement with a corresponding section or corresponding sections on the bag member or on the opposite end of the said retaining element.
Abstract:
Radially divided adhesive wafers are provided for applying to the skins of a human, and which increase the wear time for such adhesive wafers. The adhesive wafer includes a through-going hole for communication with a body opening and an adhesive proximal side for attachment of the wafer to the skin. The adhesive wafer has an inner annular adhesive layer, an outer annular adhesive layer encircling the inner annular adhesive layer, an attachment zone on the distal side of the wafer for attaching a collection bag, and a connecting element for mechanically connecting the first annular adhesive layer to the second annular adhesive layer. The connecting element includes first and second connection areas on the distal side of the respective first and second annular adhesive layers, at least one connection area being radially spaced from the radial edges of the respective annular adhesive layer.

The distal surface is covered with a backing layer. The wafer comprises a central portion and a peripheral portion, and it comprises at least a first and a detection zone, wherein the detection zone is configured to provide a tactile sensation on the distal surface of the wafer when exposed to moisture.
Abstract:
The current invention relates to radially divided adhesive wafers for applying to the skin of a human, and which increases the wear time of such adhesive wafers. More specifically, detailed embodiments relating to radially divided adhesive wafers for use in ostomy appliances are described. This is done by providing an adhesive wafer comprising a through-going hole for communication with a body opening and an adhesive proximal side for attachment of the wafer to the skin surrounding the body opening. The adhesive wafer comprises an inner annular adhesive layer, an outer annular adhesive layer encircling the inner annular adhesive layer, an attachment zone for attaching a collection bag, provided on the distal side of the adhesive wafer, and connection means for mechanically connecting the first annular adhesive layer to the second annular adhesive layer, wherein the connection means comprises a first and a second connection area on the distal side of the respective first and second annular adhesive layers, wherein at least one of the connection areas are arranged in a radial distance from the radial edges of the respective annular adhesive layer. By providing an adhesive wafer as described, it has been shown that the time before a leakage occurs may be increased. In many cases, the leakage is even prevented. This results in the user being able to wear the adhesive wafer for a longer period of time.
Abstract:
A faecal management device suitable for attachment directly to the perianal skin between the buttocks of the wearer. The device utilises an optimised adhesive wafer in order to securely attach the device to the skin of the wearer so that the device is maintained in position for the entire period of wear, including circumstances or periods of wear during which the wearer is active, i.e. not bedridden. In addition the faecal management device of the present invention has the ability for easy application of the device.
Abstract:
A pressure sensitive adhesive composition suitable for medical purposes comprising a rubbery elastomeric base and water soluble or water swellable hydrocolloids, where the adhesive composition includes a substantially homogeneous mixture of 15-60% of one or more rubbery components, 10-60% of a mixture of hydrocolloids that includes a cellulose derivative, amidated pectin, and potato starch, 0-50% of one or more tackifier resins, 0-15% cohesive strengthening agent, 0-10% of a plasticizer and 0-5% pigment. The adhesive shows at least as good properties as state of the art adhesives comprising gelatine with respect to resistance to biological fluids, adhesion to skin, and coherence.
