The present invention provides a power control circuit connectable to a load adapted to receive a power supply, the power control circuit adapted to absorb power from the power supply and adapted to deliver power to the power supply to stabilize at least one electrical parameter of the power supply. The present invention also provides an associated method of stabilizing at least one electrical parameter of a power supply connectable to a load, the method including absorbing power from the power supply or delivering power to the power supply. The at least one electrical parameter of the power supply includes parameters such as voltage and frequency.
Abstract:
This invention provides an electronic control method for a planar inductive battery charging apparatus on which one or more electronic loads such as mobile phones, MP3 players etc can be placed and charged simultaneously. The power control circuit of the charging pad consists of two power conversion stages. Depending on the nature of the input power supply, the first power stage is an AC-DC power converter with variable output voltage control and a second stage is a DC-AC power inverter with constant current control. The combination of the two stages provides power control of the charging pad and generates AC magnetic flux of ideally constant magnitude over the charging areas within a group of primary windings that are excited.

This enables the integration of common mode and differential mode filters into integrated planar structures. Furthermore the planar EMI filter may be combined with an active filter element to provide a hybrid EMI filter comprising both passive and active elements with superior performance.

An apparatus for determining a rate of charge/discharge, C rate, or state of charge, SOC, of a battery having unknown characteristics comprises a circuit for applying at least a two-pulse current load to said battery. A change in voltage, ΔV, resulting from the application of the second or a subsequent pulse is used to determine the C rate of the battery as a function of ΔV. An Open Circuit Voltage, OCV, of the battery a time interval after the completion of the application of the second or subsequent pulse is used to determine the SOC of the battery as a function of OCV.
