    摘要: A postage metering system is provided with a countdown time. The countdown timer issues a priority interrupt when the timer has timed out which interrupts the control system of the meter in such a manner as to hold the meter in reset preventing operation of the postage meter. The timer is reset to a fixed period upon each funds recharge after the meter has been placed in recharge mode but prior to exposure of the secure accounting memory to recharge information.

    摘要: A data verification system including a circuit verifies that unlocking data generated by a microprocessor to be written into the ASIC before a memory write is valid. The microprocessor is programmed to generate an ASIC address when unlocking data is to be written to the ASIC and to encrypt and decrypt that data. The verifying circuit unit receives the encrypted data and decrypts the encrypted data and compares the decrypted data with the encrypted data. The verifying circuit generating an enable signal only if the comparison is true. An address decoding unit is provided for receiving the memory address signal and causing a memory write enable signal to be generated for the memory unit only if the verifying circuit unit has generated an enable signal. Registers unit in communication with the data bus and the verifying circuit unit are provided for writing decryption parameters in the register unit in accordance with the programming of the microprocessor during power-up of the microprocessor.

    摘要: In an electronic postage meter, two accounts are maintained in non-volatile memory. One account represents the funds available for the postage meter and the other is an account representing operational funds. The operational funds account is accessed and updated in meter trips. The other is accessed when operating funds reach a predetermined level. In a first embodiment, the first register is disposed in a low endurance non-volatile memory while the second register is disposed in a high endurance device which has lower retention capability. The non-volatile memory in which the first register is disposed may be maintained at power-down or power-savings condition during trip cycles and other system operations in order to protect the funds stored in the first register.

    摘要: A postage meter includes a printwheel setting mechanism which allows shortest path setting of the printwheel. Stepper motors are provided for each printwheel which drives the printwheels through a transfer gear having a large diameter and greater number of teeth so that there are multiple positions of the transfer wheel which correspond to a particular character to be printed by the printwheel. The stepper motors are microprocessor controlled and a routine calculates the shortest rotational path of the setting of a new character for printing.

    摘要: A security system for a postage meter includes two memories, one of which is an electronically programmable READ-ONLY memory having non-volatile storage, while the second memory is a shadow RAM which is a composite memory having a first section composed of a volatile RAM and a second section composed of non-volatile storage. During a power outage, a computer strobes the second memory to transfer data from the volatile section to the non-volatile section. Upon restoration of the power, a transfer circuit which includes a detector of the incoming power directs the transfer of at least a portion of the stored data in each of the memories to the computer for a comparison to determine if any data has been altered by the loss of power.

    摘要: A secured housing for an electronic device having an electronic memory mounted therewithin is provided which has as access aperture which provides tamper proof security and electro-magnetic interference protection while permitting access to the memory for reading the information maintained in the memory. Opening of the access aperture disables the electronic device from further operation by unlatching a switch which disconnects the electronic device from its power supply while preventing relatching of the switch to reactivate the electronic device. Use of the access aperture provides a visible indication of access to the interior of the housing. In one embodiment of the invention, the electronic device is an electronic postage meter and the electronic memory is a nonvolatile memory containing postage accounting information.

    摘要: An apparatus for advancing the feed frame of an automatic embroidery machine of the type incorporating two stepping motors which are drivingly connected with the feed or embroidery frame, each stepping motor bringing about a feed or advance of the feed frame in one direction. A control mechanism generates control pulses for each stepping motor as a function of the momentarily required feed displacement of the feed frame in each direction. The control mechanism embodies two switching circuits each of which is operatively associated with one of the stepping motors, and such switching circuits generate output pulses, the number of which is proportional to the number of pulses delivered to each switching circuit by a program storage and by means of which there is determined the magnitude of the momentarily required feed displacement in the corresponding direction.

    摘要: A micro control system includes a programmable microcontroller which is in bus communication with memory units and a operating power supply for providing operating power to said microcontroller. A communication module is part of the micro control system and is in communication with the data bus of the micro control system for receiving and transmitting data messages to an external device, and for encoding said transmitted data messages to conform to a serial communication protocol and decoding said received data messages. The microcontroller is programmed to generated a first control signal or a second control signal. An input-output interface is included as part of the micro control system and includes a number of switching units responsive to the first control signal of the microcontroller to place the respective switching units in a first mode of operation for providing communication between said communication module and a connector. The switching units also respond to said second control signal from the microcontroller to place said switching units in a second mode of operation for providing communication between said data bus of the micro control system and said connector to which connector the external device is attached.
