    摘要: A patient support system to be used in conjunction with a standard linear accelerator, and other sources, is described that allows access of the treatment beam to the breast from up to 360 degrees. This support system places the patient in a prone position with the breast going through an aperture. The prone position increases the separation of the breast from the chest wall and other critical organs and reduces motion of the target tissue due to breathing. This invention offers up to 36-degree radiation beam access to the breast. This helps in skin sparing, better dose conformity, and allows one to use modern treatment techniques such as IMRT and IGRT. It also includes a provision for an imaging system. This invention can also be used with CT and MR imaging modalities.

    摘要: A radiation applicator system is structured to be mounted to a radiation source for providing a predefined dose of radiation for treating a localized volume of tissue, such as the tissue surrounding the site of an excised tumor. The applicator system includes an applicator and, in some embodiments, an adapter. The adapter is formed for fixedly securing the applicator to a radiation source, such as a radiosurgery system which produces a predefined radiation dose profile with respect to a predefined location along its radiation producing probe. The applicator includes a shank and an end cap, wherein the end cap includes a substantially flat or convex treatment surface and is located at a distal end of the applicator shank. A proximate end of the applicator shank couples to the adapter. A distal end of the shank includes the end cap, which is adapted for engaging and preferably supporting the area to be treated with a predefined does of radiation. The applicator can include a low energy radiation filter inside of the applicator end cap to reduce undesirable low energy radiation emissions. A plurality of applicators having end caps of different sizes and shapes can be provided to accommodate treatment sites of various sizes and shapes. And, an adaptable applicator having a plurality of radiation positions can be provided to deliver a substantially cylindrical dose of radiation.

    摘要: In an electron beam lithography apparatus a capacitance height gauge is used to determine the distance between a reticule and electron optics. In order to calibrate the capacitance gauge an optical interferometer, including a mirror are mounted on the same axis as the capacitance gauge. The mirror is moved a predetermined distance so that the movement distance measured by the capacitance gauge and the interferometer can be compared.

    摘要: A method of calibrating a capacitance height gage for an electron beam lithography machine. The electron beam apparatus having the capacitance height gage to be calibrated is first mounted in a calibration fixture wherein the distance between the gage and a calibration reticle is adjusted using a laser interferometer. The electron beam is directed to a center high backscatter point, and then deflected to a predetermined high backscatter point. The capacitance gage readings and deflection voltages are measured to define a calibration plane. The electron beam apparatus is then repositioned to the lithography station having a reticle positioned below the electron beam. The distance to the reticle is measured with the capacitance gage, and the deflection of the electron beam during lithography operations is adjusted according to the variation of the reticle plane from the calibration plane.

    摘要: In a linear tone arm tracking system for a record player where the stylus tone arm moves on a guiderail across a recording, eg. a record disc on a turntable, an improvement is provided in which the stylus tone arm is connected to a partial sleeve, which sleeve hovers partially over the guiderail and means, such as air pressure means, causes the partial sleeve to hover over the guiderail in proximity therewith, so that when the stylus rides in the record groove and is laterally shifted thereby, the tone arm and partial sleeve readily shift over the guiderail in response to the shift of the stylus.Further provided is a means for raising and lowering the guiderail which adjusts the elevation of the partial sleeve and tone arm and accordingly adjusts the vertical tracking angle of the stylus in the record groove.

    摘要: A phantom apparatus for measuring the radiation dose distribution produced by a brachytherapy device used to treat a localized area with radiation. The brachytherapy device includes an insertable probe capable of producing predefined radiation dose geometries about a predefined point. The phantom apparatus includes a tank containing a medium having a radiological equivalent characteristic of the localized area to be treated. The phantom apparatus also includes a radiation sensor for measuring the radiation dose and a positioning system for moving the probe with respect to the radiation sensor. The radiation sensor is also coupled to a positioning system to orient the sensor for optimal dose measurements. The phantom apparatus includes a control system that coordinates the movements of the probe and the radiation sensor to avoid a collision. The control system moves the probe along a predefined path around radiation sensor and records the dose at predefined points along the path. In order to reduce the settling time of the sensor, the path is selected to coincide with the isodose contours of the radiation dose distribution of the probe.
