Abstract:
An optical apparatus for identification of objects whose identifying data is stored in satellite-aided transmission systems, computer systems, or other electronic systems and a method for identifying objects. An optical apparatus with a fine focus is used to view an object. The position of the apparatus, distance to the object and other data related to the object relative to the apparatus is detected and data about the object is displayed.
Abstract:
A camera tracking system for a virtual television or video studio is provided. The camera tracking system is used to determine the position and/or orientation of recording cameras and comprises emitter devices for emitting electromagnetic radiation. The emitter devices can be mechanically coupled to the recording camera. The camera tracking system further comprises detecting devices for detecting the position of the emitter devices on the basis of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the emitter devices, each detecting device being able to detect several emitter devices. A computer unit evaluates the electromagnetic radiation detected by the detecting devices and emitted by the emitter device, and determines the position and/or orientation of the emitter devices in relation to the detecting devices.
Abstract:
The invention is directed toward a magnetic shield included in a compass-based indicator tool. The indicator tool utilizes a compass to indicate a device setting of an implantable medical device. The implantable medical device may include a target that creates an internal magnetic field for the compass to interact with. External magnetic fields, specifically earth's magnetic field, may interfere with the compass and create an incorrect device setting indication. The magnetic shield blocks the external magnetic fields from influencing the accuracy of the device setting measurement.
Abstract:
The method of determining the stopped angular position of a rotor comprises the following steps: a) applying a sequence of successive voltage vectors to the terminals of the windings of the stator, said sequence including first and second voltage vectors adapted to modify the electrical characteristics of the windings and a third voltage vector adapted to cancel out the torque created by applying the first and second voltage vectors, b) determining a response signal from all of the windings to application of the first and second voltage vectors, and c) establishing the angular position of the rotor with an uncertainty of ±90° from the signals determined in the step b).
Abstract:
Method for controlling installation of a head stack assembly in a disc drive. The head stack assembly is aligned in a head stack installation tool. A base deck assembly is advanced to the head stack installation tool, the base deck assembly having a post supporting a tolerance ring. A robotic assembly is dispatched to pick and press the head stack assembly onto the tolerance ring and post while mechanical resistance and distance traveled parameters by the head stack assembly are measured. The installation is aborted or completed in relation to the mechanical resistance encountered and the distance traveled, thus allowing use of minimum and maximum force thresholds with respect to insertion distance and assuring correct installation of the head stack assembly.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for utilizing spin valve magnetoresistance devices for the measurement of weak magnetic fields. The magnetoresistive element consists of a pinned ferromagnetic layer and a soft ferromagnetic layer separated by a thin spacer layer. The pinned layer may be pinned by high intrinsic coercivity, or by a neighboring antiferromagnet or high coercivity ferromagnet layer. An oscillating magnetic field is applied to the device. The amplitude of the excitation field is large enough to reverse the magnetization of the soft layer during each cycle, but small enough that the magnetization direction of the pinned layer is not much affected. In one embodiment, the applied field is applied using a current strip deposited onto the top of the other layers, so that the entire device can be produced on a single chip.
Abstract:
Two Sagnac interferometers are mounted on board a ship with their axes in a horizontal plane. The axis of one interferometer is aligned in a fore-aft direction whereas the axis of the other interferometer is aligned athwartship. The output signals of the two interferometers are combined mathematically so as to cancel the effects of the ship's latitude and thus provide an output signal independent of this parameter.
Abstract:
An instrument console for use in scuba diving includes a console body having a first end adapted for connection to a pressurized air line, and a second end opposite the first end, at least one instrument being secured within the console body, a compass having top and side Lubber Lines, a compass housing configured to accommodate the compass and being connected to the second end of the console body to pivot relative to the console body, so that while held in front of the swimming diver, the compass may be maintained and read in a generally horizontal position, and the instruments may be viewed in a generally vertical position.
Abstract:
In a navigation device for land vehicles the orientation signal which indicates the direction of movement along which the vehicle is moving is measured on the one hand by an electronic compass. A further orientation signal is produced by the variation of the vehicle orientation as determined by wheel sensors. These two orientation signals comprise measuring errors. In order to determine an optimum value for the orientation from said values a digital filter unit is used which comprises low-pass and high-pass filters. The value for the orientation signal measured by the compass is presented to the input of the low-pass filter and the further orientation signal is presented to an input of the high-pass filter. The filter unit further comprises a control unit which generates a filter parameter from received orientation signals and supplies said filter parameter to the low-pass filter and the high-pass filter.
